Happy birthday to [personal profile] loquita, [personal profile] beanpot and [personal profile] binkii! SG-1 would like to mark this auspicious date in a traditional way: a full team cartwheel!

You know that tradition, right? )

It's Kat's first birthday today. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! There are things in my fridge older than her. We got her a motorised dangle toy thing that she finds TERRIFYING, so that's just great. It probably didn't help that, the moment we switched it on, the motorised arm lashed out and swung the spider dangle thing right at her head.

Hopefully she'll get used to it.

I also made her some Marmite cheesecake, from my cat recipe book. She liked that a little more. Yes, my cat is spoiled. *g*

Speaking of birthdays...

Wow. I really don't know what to say. Someone's gifted me with six months of paid time! That's just... wow. I'm not very good at finding the right words to say thank you, but I feel a warm glow of "you like me, you really LIKE me!". Whoever it was, thank you so much! Is there anything I can do in return? Fic, action figure theatre, blogging on any subject... you name it.

While I'm offering, and since I'm not sure what else to write about for this three weeks thing...

I got an email a few days ago about having been nominated for Stargate Fan Awards, but I managed to screw it up somehow - but now it's been sorted, and I officially know that someone(s) out there has been so kind and squeeful as to nominate Sleeping Dogs, Float Like A Butterfly, and It's Been An Honor. Aw, shucks, you guyz...!

How amused am I that they're all gen fics? Very. *g*

Oh my gosh. The Redial sign-ups post is quite an experience. Good times were had! All gone, now. Allll gone. And the rewatch of Nemesis! Is tomorrow! Tomorrow! Time, it does fly.

If you saw ME in a police car, what would you think I got arrested for? Answer me, then post to your own journal and see how many crimes you get accused of.

(Or "for what reason would you think I'd been arrested", and "how many crimes you get accused of committing"... And I think I can guess what the answers will be. *g*)

Love.

I think we've skipped autumn and gone straight to winter. Brr. No fair; I love autumn. Today at work my toes were cold, my hands were cold, my nose was cold, and my back was cold (man I hate that), but all that was of no consequence because inside I was warm and smooshy from the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] beanpot's anonymous love meme. Aw, peeps...! *gets teary*

Anti-Monday devices.

Mondays. Ugh. And LJ keeps screwing with this post. And, oh CRAP, I have just realised I've forgotten to fax my timesheet. *headdesk, deep sigh* So, things for which I am grateful:

- The sandwich my beloved made me, with just the right amount of (English) mustard on it. The sandwiches he makes are not the sandwiches I would make for myself, but I love the quirks he gives them, and the opportunity it gives me to acclimatise my tastebuds to hot stuff.

- [livejournal.com profile] moonshaydewrote me a ficlet! *sporfles at it*

- Everyone who recommended Lois McMasters Bujold to me. And the librarian I started chatting to on Saturday who was determined I should read The Warrior's Apprentice, to the extent that she searched through the so-recently-returned-they're-still-behind-the-counter shelves for me. And found it. (Although, the fact that I was up reading this book until late late late last night may be one reason I'm finding this Monday morning so very difficult.)

- I drew this xkcd strip on our whiteboard on Friday, and have seen people reading it, notably the person who made me think of it in the first place. Hopefully learning will percolate.

- I have the latest Lucinda Williams album and a DVD set of Sapphire and Steel on order. My love for Sapphire and Steel, I will show you it soon, no doubt. "Transuranic heavy elements may not be used where there is life. Medium atomic weights are available..."

- [livejournal.com profile] mrspollifaxwrote funny Sam/Jack fic!

- Getting up early on Saturday and meeting up with a friend at the local shops for tea and toast, and wandering round the shops, and stopping for more tea. And then going to the library with A, and then coming home and having a nap. And then waking up, having dinner, pottering around for a while, and napping again. Until 5am. And then waking up, looking at the moon and what I think was Orion (three bright stars, his belt), and... going back to sleep.

- Feeling very refreshed on Sunday.

- A postcard from [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp. :)

- Stephen Fry's expression after the flyover at the unbe-freaking-lievable local ball game between two American colleges (a game which, in the UK, would have consisted of maybe fifty people watching two teams and a referee on a muddy pitch, too damn early on a Saturday morning. Your country is huge, Americans. HUGE.)

- A picture of a baby owl. SO CUTE.

- Pistachio ice cream. My favourite flavour since a school trip to Bolougne, where I ordered it from a street stall, thinking it was mint. It wasn't mint, and it was a million times nicer. Other than that, I remember that Bolougne was steep and sunny, with old stone city walls, and a beautiful cathedral with stained glass windows and a carved and polished wooden hand, smooth as glass.

Happy birthday!

Awards and... stuff

Yay, congratulations to everyone who won a Stargate Fan Award! Particularly those on my flist: [profile] 6beforelunch, [profile] abyssinia4077, [personal profile] aelfgyfu_mead, [profile] annerbhp, [personal profile] crazedturkey, [profile] kellifer_fic, [personal profile] moonshayde, [personal profile] paian, [personal profile] rowan_d, [personal profile] rydra_wong, [profile] sg_fignewton, and [personal profile] surreallis... holy buckets. I am practicing my gritted-teeth smile and dramatic flounce. ;) Srsly, in the company I was in, I didn't expect to win.

---

Now you should come and play on the latest [profile] redial_the_gaterecap, for Serpent's Song—an episode that was much more interesting than I remembered. Jack says "Sam?", and is all concerned for her (♥), Teal'c is ultra-menacing and cool and is just beginning to come into his own (the "That time is no more" bit? Ooooh), Janet is strong and ethical and bosses Teal'c around (*waves "Go Janet!" flag*), and for those of you of the Jack/Daniel persuasion, Jack and Daniel get hot and sweaty in the control room.

I can't believe we're nearly at the end of season 2 already. Yikes.

---

I'm enjoying Siren's Song so far, but I'm so not in the mood for another Daniel-centric story just now. Sigh. Perhaps I should stop reading it until I've distanced myself a bit from the last one.

---

Aelf, I watch the Willow Is Cute show yesterday. *g* She scared the crap out of Giles by appearing suddenly through a wall, whilst he was spending a relaxing evening card-indexing. It's funny to watch earlier episodes--I keep thinking how much she's going to change, and how completely self-confident she becomes, without the character essentially changing.

Some kind and anonymous soul bid for [personal profile] surreallis  on Sweet Charity - and has asked for the postcards to be sent to me!

*flails, completely incoherently*

So, Ms. or Mr. Awesome, can I write you something? Or, or, or draw you stick figures - or something? Anything?!

London life

I keep meaning to post this - [profile] shinysilvergrl  came to visit these fair isles, and we met up, and it was fun! It was so lovely to meet an LJ person in, ah, person, for the first time. It turned out neither of us was an axe murderer, presumably to the relief of our respective partners (who, bless them, were worrying). We had a wander around Covent Garden, and some food in a noisy pub, and a wander around one of my favourite shops (Forbidden Planet, oh the geeky goodies). It was... well, liberating, quite frankly, to be able to drop names like Jack O'Neill into the conversation without getting blank looks. *g* And we talked about writing fic, and how we respond to feedback, and all that sort of stuff. Whee! Look, I can claim LJ as a legitimate friend-making thingy, now, and not just a tool for sucking up all my time!

I was reminded by the return to London of the Terracotta Army, that I once went to see it, many years ago. I remember it made a big impression on me (and I'm definitely going to see it again, whilst it's here - one day, I'd love to go see the whole thing in situ). I looked up past exhibitions - and apparently they haven't been to London since 1981. I'm amazed I can remember it - I would have been three or four years old. I remember there were red and black walls, and the weather was cold, and the statues were very tall and scary. Years later, I could still remember some of the stuff I was told about how it was discovered by accident, when local farmers drilling for a well broke through into a vast, underground tomb, full of an entire army of life-size terracotta figures - every one individual. The figures are eerie and imposing, and when I was little I thought they looked like they were ready to move, any moment. If an exhibition of it ever comes around your way, I highly recommend going.

We've also got Tutankhamun's treasure coming to London soon - I plan to go see that, too. I'll be having a very Daniel-esque Autumn. *g*

Whee!

I was very thrilled today to come home and find a postcard waiting for me, all the way from the other side of the world. Thank you, Abyssis, and everyone who signed it! It's like, in some small way, I too went to Dragon*Con. *g*

And now, a kitten eating a melon.

There's something wrong with me. Yes, I have signed up for [profile] sg1_by_hand. WHAT HAVE I DONE???? But I said I would, and then I havered, and then I looked at the prompts, and they're really good, and...

(There's still time for other people to sign up, although prompt submission has closed - you have until 12 midnight Eastern Standard Time today.)

Also, I need to finish my [profile] reel_sg1fic (deadline Sept 30, but post anytime before then), and, of course, the apocafic, which is making me feel like I'm in some kind of horrible Ancient Greek legend.

[personal profile] synecdochicis having an anonymous fandom love meme, which reminds me very much of those secret Valentines we used to send in school (in a nice way). Several of my flist are (deservedly) mentioned, go check it out. And... *gets teary, hugs everyone* Love you guys.

(I'm all about the brackets lately. Also, I love the Aberystwyth books by Malcolm Pryce. Currently reading The Unbearable Lightness Of Being In Aberystwyth. Stovepipe hats!)

Belated happy birthday to

Despite the efforts of [profile] abyssinia4077  (who's making me write crackier and crackier stuff) and [personal profile] rowan_d  (who's making me write S/D pRon!), I'm still chugging along on my SDficathon piece. But, boy am I bored of it... *g* I'm going to go write something not featuring Sam OR Daniel after it's done. They can go jump. (Although now I kinda want to write MacGyver/Sam (Carter)... dammit, [profile] surrealphantast...)

And I am developing somewhat of a crush on Michael Shanks, thanks to the dry humour of his blog. Still not especially attracted to Daniel, though, which is... eh. At least I can say that it's definitely not about appearance for me. (Although the fact that he's very hot doesn't... hinder my impending crush. *g*)

I'm a terrible girlfriend. Why do you put up with me, A? *squishes*

What else? My ankle itches. I slept from 7.30pm last night all the way through to 6.30am this morning, woohoo. Oh, and I hate people who can't open doors for themselves, meaning I have to get up and open it for them. It's an EASY CODE TO REMEMBER, GODDAMMIT. LEARN IT. STOP EXPECTING ME TO BE YOUR DOORMAN, OR SOON I SHALL START LEAVING YOU OUT THERE. KNOCKING AS QUIETLY AS POSSIBLE DOESN'T MAKE ME DISLIKE YOU ANY LESS.

Eejits.

/rant. Life's tough, huh? *g*

Now I'm going to go have lunch.
