Random thing.

pepper: Pepperpot (Giggle)
I don't remember who I heard of this from, but I think it was someone on LJ, a fair while back, and I am eternally grateful to them:

Weight Watchers recipe cards from 1974.

I remembered the site today, whilst looking at some of my mum's old recipe cards (from 1975, and of a very similar ilk) and had to go look for it. And as before, I cried with laughter.

Dude. Fluffy Mackerel Pudding is a crime against nature.

WTF???

And I thought Salmon Mousse was bad.

Yes, three words that had never existed in a sentence together before. Hee.

Hey! Someone sent me that link ages ago, but I had completely forgotten about it! And I'm not sure whether to thank you for the reminder (and the giggles) or run screaming ....

Heh - well, then, I apologise and am proud. *g*

I remember it again, every now and then, and just have to go find if Macarelly was just a nightmare or not.

LOL! I liked the one where there was this porcelain vase next to the plate. "Enjoy it with the ashes of your loved ones!" Hahahaha!

Yes! What in god's name were the photographers thinking?!?

I have some similar cards that belonged to my mum, and they made me laugh, too. They do put the most random objects in them. It makes you wander about the thought processes behind them. "I know, Frank - fish pie... and lightbulbs!"

wow

The "Rosy Perfection Salad" is terrifying. As is the obsession with Mackerel. Wow.

But it's mackarelicious! *g*

Yeah, I really, really do not understand the 70s obsession with turning everything into a gelatine mold. It's so wrong.

Inspiration Soup now reminds me of Seth, though. *g*

Fanny Craddock....it was all her fault!

I have no words.

My theory is that they thought of the name before they thought of the recipe. "Frankfurter SPECTACULAR! It's perfect! Everyone will want to make something with a name like that! What should go in it?"

OMG. I was shrieking with laughter. Brilliant Husband got out of the shower and came to see. He looked at a couple. He started to leave. "No, come back!" I'd shout, because the next one was just too awful. He'd come back. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Drugs must have been involved. Very deeply involved.

Yeah, I keep doing that, too, to A. "No, you have to see this one, it's even worse!" *g*

They must've been having a bad, baaaaad trip when they came up with the liver pate one. Eep. Just say no.

Yes - at what point did these seem like a good idea? When would that ever, EVER look like something someone would want to eat? I can't belive that even in 1974 people thought, "Mmm, you know what I'd love? Red cabbage in gelatine."

Well, considering the weird (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=4&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FBalut&ei=aQFUSIy8LZmIsAPg5_DzAg&usg=AFQjCNGMieN7eSiHymNtpqtrTIRG4VjxUQ&sig2=hisUX0ttPsH45VHQC-sOpg) things (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FLutefisk&ei=jwFUSKH-BYHysAP-kfnvAg&usg=AFQjCNEVi3YRwt04ORpIU7k2ZWLqbxp5Sw&sig2=nmliQ8Xp3c7QHq6GuKX2BQ) that people do eat...

I guess it's not that much of a stretch.

Really.

Still, it's awfully creative. And the props. Man.

Re: lol
:D

They're freaky, aren't they? I keep wondering if people actually, really, genuinely made this stuff - and whether their children were scarred for life. *g*
