I don't remember who I heard of this from, but I think it was someone on LJ, a fair while back, and I am eternally grateful to them:

Weight Watchers recipe cards from 1974.

I remembered the site today, whilst looking at some of my mum's old recipe cards (from 1975, and of a very similar ilk) and had to go look for it. And as before, I cried with laughter.

I have some similar cards that belonged to my mum, and they made me laugh, too. They do put the most random objects in them. It makes you wander about the thought processes behind them. "I know, Frank - fish pie... and lightbulbs!"

My theory is that they thought of the name before they thought of the recipe. "Frankfurter SPECTACULAR! It's perfect! Everyone will want to make something with a name like that! What should go in it?"

OMG. I was shrieking with laughter. Brilliant Husband got out of the shower and came to see. He looked at a couple. He started to leave. "No, come back!" I'd shout, because the next one was just too awful. He'd come back. Lather, rinse, repeat.
