pepper: Pepperpot (Apocalypse now?)
[personal profile] aurora_novarum, you're a star! Your pep talk seems to have done the trick – I'm tentatively hopeful that I might actually finish this story and reclaim my soul bit. And working out the season really did help. Thank you ever so much. You might have saved my sanity. *g*

Oh, I held out, but I can resist no longer...

The state of my apocalypse

hee :)

YAY to finally feeling like things are actually together! Ouch to the total wordcount of bits you can't use.

But hurray you are getting there!!!!! WHOO-HOO!

(okay, what do you mean by "amber alert" because I'm guessing you aren't referring to the US meaning of that term...)

GO YOU! WOOT!
*glares at own fic*

To be honest, I'm assigning random colours to my alert system. *g* It's amber 'cause I think of that as a kind of midway position - not definitely certain I'm going to finish, given the history of this fic, but also not giving up in despair at the moment.

(Okay, I have to quote this, although it may make no sense to you...
"Go to red alert!"
"Sir, are you absolutely sure? It will mean changing the bulb."
- from Red Dwarf.)

And yes, ouch to the vast amount of words I've written that have been discarded. That was kind of an estimate, as I don't have all the discarded bits with me at the moment, and some of them were mutated versions of earlier attempts, so it's hard to get a precise count, but that's about right. It's been ongoing for quite a while, and has veered wildly from being inspired and writing lots, to wanting to start again from scratch - far more so than my usual fic process.

I'm still in hopes that I can wedge in the bits I really like, once this version gets going. Seems like such a waste.

And go you on yours, too - I'm sure you can do it! Think of Eroding Away The Mountains as an incentive! :)

Okay. In the US an "Amber Alert" is issued to indicate that there's been a kidnapped child and people should look out for them (created after a girl named Amber was kidnapped, taken across state lines, and, I think, murdered). So...it struck me as odd.

(RED DWARF!)

I'm still excited to see your apocafic, whatever form it finally takes. And fic outtakes can be fun.

Think of Eroding Away The Mountains as an incentive! :)

I'm just scared that when I finally get there I'll no longer be inspired...

Ah. Oh. I didn't know that. Completely the wrong kind of alert, in that case.

And, ta! And I'm sure you'll still be inspired by Eroding - it seems like it's one of those fics that's really important to the writer - something that feels like you've put a lot of effort and thought into, and you want to get it just perfect... Not that you wouldn't normally do that, but you know what I mean? It seems like it'll be something you miss, in a way, when it's done.

Maybe your muse died like mine did. Honestly, the moment I turned in my entry for the [livejournal.com profile] sjficathon, something went KABLOOWY! and I haven't been able to write anything of decent length or plot ever since, original or fandom-based.

Maybe it's the time of year...? Possibly some air-borne pathogen? Something in the world's water?

It's a conspiracy. TPTB don't want us coming up with ingenious ways to end the world. It's some kind of anti-terror thing.

*nods emphatically*

O_O Anti-terror is seeping into people subconsciouses?! AHHHH! *runs off to find tin foil hat*

TPTB really are dastardly.

I'm a star? *preens* Do I twinkle?
:-D

This of course stopped my head from swelling:
Number of times I've had an epiphany of 'This is it! I've got it at last!': About once every two weeks

LOL.

But this time, it really really will be the one! Yes. You can do it, pepper! I want you to have your soul bit back! *waves pom poms*

But this time feels like the REAL TIME! *g*

I want my soul bit back, too. I don't trust it, out on its own. I suspect it's going to come back looking very disreputable, like a pet that goes missing for a week, and finally turns up, after you've worried yourself sick about it.

I shouldn't laugh. I really, really shouldn't.

Really.

Not laughing at crazy ficathon people at all

Ah, I deserve to be mocked. I know. *g*

I'm not doing any more ficathons. They just make me crazy. No more.

Well, except for the reel_sg1 one, which I've already signed up for... dammit...

Aww. But, hee! But, aww. I'm so right there with you.

(zomg I got so frustrated yesterday with my apocafic that I ended up writing 500 words of a totally new story for a prompt that is so not the one I'm supposed to be writing. GAH!)

Sorry to hear about the stuff you had to cut out. After the ficathons calm down, you should post them anyway! Start a meme or something..."From the Cutting Room Floor."

You'll get your soul back. Go, Pepper, go!

(Is it wrong that I've found all of our collective apoca-flailings so funny that I want to dig them all up and compile a list?)

You should do that! It'd be a lesson, for anyone thinking of biting off more ficathon than they can chew. *g*

If I can't find anywhere in my story to wedge some of the bits I like that have been abandoned, I definitely want to post them. Some of them. There's nothing wrong with them, per se, they just... didn't go anywhere. Which, I guess, is a major flaw in a story...

I'm totally with you on writing something - anything! - other than This Damn Story. I'm not allowing myself to do that (again), because I could procrastinate forever, that way.

Hee! It'd be like, the Behind The Scenes Bonus edition. The Making (or...not) of Apocalypse_Kree!

You definitely should, especially the parts you're really sad to see go. (See, this is how cool fic memes happen. And then you can get other people to post their cut pieces and we can all ooh and aah at the deleted scenes.)

Oh, man. I feel like this, too. Only without the scrapping. Or the writing. :-)

On the plus side, I have over 5K now, and I think it's coming together, maybe.

Good luck to us both!

In fact, I have go delete the finally amazingly done rewrite of the finally amazingly done super scary scene and rewrite it until I make a finally amazingly done one again. *headdesk*

It hurts, doesn't it? It's always those bits that you're super proud of, but they just don't fit now the story has veered off in a different direction, or changed tense, or changed POV (that's what mine do all the time, anyhow, and the day they invent an automated system for changing things from past to present tense I shall rejoice).

Still, mustn't be precious. *sigh*
