Name three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return, I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them. (Assuming, you know, that I have some idea what the fandom is, etc.)

Do your worst! :-)

Me, procrastinating on my Sam/Daniel fic? Naaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Actually, I've written 500+ words on it today, so I'm feeling productive. Although I'd feel more productive if I could work out What Happens Next. If I get it finished by this weekend, is anyone up for a quick beta? I don't think it'll be much more than 1,500 words when finished.

edit: Thanks to [profile] abyssinia4077 for the prompts - this one bit me quickly!

"Major!" Jack bellowed, using all the voice projection he'd had trained into him at the Academy. "Stop flying around right this instant and GET BACK DOWN HERE!"

There was a faint, rebellious noise from several metres above their heads, and the Colonel looked irritably at Daniel. "It wasn't my fault!" protested the archaeologist, for the several-dozenth time. Jack's scowl deepened.

Teal'c was standing with his hands behind his back, calmly observing the errant Major's aerial acrobatics with her new... acquisitions. "I believe it will be most difficult to persuade Major Carter to land," he remarked.

"Thanks, T," said Jack, sarcastically. "I hadn't worked that one out. MAJOR! IF YOU'RE NOT DOWN HERE IN FIVE SECONDS, I'M PUTTING YOU ON REPORT!"

From this distance, it was difficult to tell exactly what Carter said, but it definitely didn't have the proper, respectful tone due to a superior officer. Jack sighed, and gave in, staring up at his 2IC along with the rest of his team.

"You know," he said, "If someone had warned me that Carter was going to grow wings, I'd've expected something more Tinkerbell than... Batman."

"I'm telling her you said that," said Daniel.

Jack's shove sent him sprawling onto the controls. Daniel's outflung hand hit a button, there was a tinkling sound, and they both turned to stare in horror at Teal'c.

"IT WASN'T MY FAULT!"

edit2: Jack/Felger (Avenger 2.0 spoilers)...

"Colonel O'Neill!" yelled Jay Felger, flinging himself at Jack and babbling his relief at being rescued. Jack, in response, grabbed Jay's hat and fended him off.

"Felger! Felger! JAY! What did I say about touching?" he snapped.

Jay stepped back, quickly. Jack could be so touchy – in the non-touchy way – sometimes. "Not in public," he muttered.

"Damn right."

"Absolutely, yes, it's just I'm so glad to see you – we were over there, and they – the Jaffa came, and they were shooting, and I couldn't fix the Gate controls, and they were everywhere, and Major Carter was shooting, and then you – you-" his voice sped up as he spoke, a heady combination of adrenalin and relief, and he lunged again at the Colonel, wrapping his arms around him and clinging for all he was worth. "I'm so glad to see you," he said, muffled against Jack's chest.

Jack rolled his eyes and pulled a hand free, to rub Jay's back, soothingly. "Yeah, I got that," he said, somewhat more gently.

edit3: OMG, you must read this right now! [profile] abyssinia4077  put all three of her prompts in one fic! Genius stuff (scroll down, it's in the comments). Hahaha!

I love this meme.

edit4: Last one:

Janet was displeased.

"No," she said.

Two very tall men and one teenaged girl shrank a little more.

"But, mom–" said Cassie, unwisely drawing attention to herself.

"I said no, Cassie." There were no threats, no raised voices. There was only The Tone. Cassie subsided immediately, and Janet's focus went to Daniel and Teal'c. They both flinched. Fake gods had nothing on this woman.

"I am unfamiliar with the Tauri custom of 'the prom'," tried Teal'c. "Daniel Jackson and Cassandra were–"

"Oh, don't give me that," said Janet, disgustedly. "We all watched 'Pretty In Pink' together just three weeks ago. Don't think I've forgotten."

Teal'c was vanquished. Janet turned to Daniel, her expression demanding an explanation.

"I don't see why it's so wrong for men to dress colorfully, and after all in many other cultures it's perfectly acceptable, even expected, that men will wear a long robe - the Jaffa, in fact, being an example of that, and besides, you said Cassie needed a chaperone, and Teal'c will still be the most intimidating man there, even in aquamarine tulle..."

His babbling petered out under Janet's icy glare. Daniel looked at the floor, and shuffled his feet.

"Ithoughtitwasfunny," he muttered. Teal'c shot him a betrayed look.

"What was that?" enquired Janet, crisp as a Colorado winter morning.

Daniel looked up, and gave her his best, most sincere, most winning smile. "Janet, I'm really-" he began.

An aquamarine court shoe, size 12, caught him squarely between the eyes.

Oh, man, I *hear* you. So bad. Can I just use the Samm/Daniel story I wrote during the ficathon time period even though it doesn't fulfill my prompts? No? damn.

Three fic prompts:
* Daniel and Teal'c take Cassie shopping for her prom dress and come back with something of their own...
* Jack/Felger
* Sam gets wings. Not pretty, fragile fairy wings. Great, powerful, leathery dragon wings. And she doesn't want to lose them.

Hah! I like the prompts. Yes, I can safely say I would never have written any of those. *g*

*thinking...*

I looked at my old, unfinished fics to see if I had something suitable for a launching point (because my prompt was really very broad), but it went along the lines of "Sam/Jack, no, Sam/Jack, Jack, Jack, Sam/Jack, Jack... Damn. Is that all I write? CURSES!"

The funny thing is, I've been leaving these "crazy" prompts for people and then thinking "hey, that could be fun to write"

HA! I'm like that with Sam and Daniel. Looking at my fic, I've done a few short Jack-pieces, but pretty much it's all Sam and Daniel and all Sam's PoV. *is so boring*

(mine were broad too - which is one of those things that is simultaneously blessing and curse)

*loves crazy prompts* I know what you mean. I try to come up with prompts that have something unusual about them - and then my brain latches on, and starts coming up with scenarios. Fortunately for my sanity, I'm too lazy to start writing the majority of ideas I come up with.

First getting jailed when he was invited on a diplomatic mission and then MOPING IN HIS CELL WHEN THEY BLEW THE PROMETHEUS OMG SO SAD!!! He needed a hug like whoa. You could feel his heart breaking in two.

And then, when he got Sam on the radio "good to hear your voice" I about imploded.

And "Don't you ever give up?" "Not until I'm dead...sometimes not even then."
*squishes him*

And now you've zoomed ahead of me! We did Doctor Who instead of Stargate last night.

I especially liked Teal'c's greeting of Sam, when she appeared after the Prometheus blew up. He looked nearly in tears, poor lamb. But oh, it must've been torture for Daniel, not knowing... they seemed to be in prison for a while, although Stargate doesn't always make the timeframe clear.

Loved SG-1 negotiating - Sam from the Caledonian side, Daniel (as ever) on the 'bad guys' side (not that they were bad, as such), and Cam sort of representing the Tauri. I so wanted him to blow up the damn satellite anyhow - that was only ever going to end badly. Although I didn't expect them to slip the knife in at the end, when it seemed like it was all over... Ow.

(I would've said all this on your lj, but I wasn't sure about commenting on older posts.)

And I figured I'd better get ahead - I have a tendancy to watch these things in clumps, and then not watch for a week or so - so I don't want to miss out on the meta! *g*

Oh, no kidding. When we were watching I turned to my mom and announced "Teal'c's GONNA CRY!!!!" It was....amazing.

I'm pretty sure Daniel was there for a few days. I mean, he'd been there what, 2-3 days before Prometheus showed up. And I'm sure it was at least a day from when it blew to when people assembled at Caledonia and longer until they got their plan in action and he found out his team was alive. And he knew the Prometheus blew, so it was likely that, even if his team was alive, people he knew died. And, in a lot of ways, he's going to consider this to be All His Fault.

They didn't need to lay a hand on the poor guy to torture him.

Definitely awesome on the negotiating - though I was with you. I was yelling at Cam to just blow it anyway, because the deal the Caledonians were being offered was crap and I knew Rand was going to betray them (when the president told them to arm the satellite I shouted "see! told you!"). I didn't expect the end to be quite so bad...but yeah, very possible and very ow.

(here is fine - my LJ is fine too. I've comments set to email)

Going ahead is just fine. I might get to one tonight. (things have been busy around here, and we alternate in episodes of Doctor Who and SGA among SG-1, plus I'm getting hooked on Farscape (it feels like I watch so much, but I watch so much less than the average American))

Yeah...I'm between jobs right now so I'm swimming in time (and evil job apps).

I watched SGA before SG-1 so now SG-1 is new to me and we're watching SGA so my mom can see that too. Farscape I just poked at a few days ago and...it's not the same squee of Stargate, but it's definitely good and I can see it being addictive. Also Ben Browder is all sorts of hot and awesome. It reminds me just a little of Firefly (if you've seen that) - different in a lot of ways, but similar feel in some.

*has a long, long list of things to watch, also including Angel*

Ugh. I hate job applications. I always mean to photocopy them so I can just transfer the information and not have to look it up again every damn time... But then they always ask different levels of detail... Good luck with that!

Yep. Apps suck. What sucks more is sending them out and never hearing back (I'd rather a rejection than silence). But I've got some leads now that look promising. *crosses fingers*

You know, I completely understand Janet's death as part of the series and the themes, and I knew it was coming before I got there...but I do miss her. i can't quite figure out why she was so important, but she was. Maybe it was her role in "Hathor." Because that cracked me up. But I think it was mainly just because she was always *there*, for so many years.

When she was there, she had a lot of presence, too - she was somehow really believeable as a character. Even though she was on-screen a lot less than SG-1, I really felt like she was around and about somewhere, doing stuff, with a life separate and entwined with the stuff that happened on the show... I think Teryl is a good actress, very vivid. It's the same with Hammond - he was mostly just there to send them on missions, have stuff explained to him, etc - but he felt like a fully-rounded character (if you'll excuse the pun).

And yeah, I agree with shows being allowed to kill off main characters if it works and has a reason (and 'Heroes' was a great swan-song) - but I just feel they could have done more with her, if they'd kept her. And I really miss her. Or... I feel that the other characters really miss her. *thinks* Yes. That's partly it, too.

Yes. I couldn't have said it better. Also, I think you're right about feeling like the other characters miss her, too. They never show anything, not really, except when it's called up in the plot (Ripple Effect), but I've always somehow gotten that feeling from them.

Well, I hate to say it, but maybe Janet's death works too well--I just can't forget her and move on. So maybe something that would have been a device in another show became something a little more real here. She was just not minor enough not to make waves with her absence.

Of course, I usually am struck by the vivid characters on Stargate--even those who are around for only one or two episodes are really very memorable. How do they do that?

I'm running a bit long, I know, but one more observation: Stargate isn't the best show on television. It's a campy science fiction adventure show that isn't as smart as BSG and isn't as cutting-edge or witty as Farscape. It isn't as realistic as Firefly, and it's not as funny--okay, it's probably as funny as any of the above, in a subdued and relatively clean way.

Yet I love it. I clutch at it. I re-watch episodes. I write fanfic about it, read copious amounts of fanfic about it, and generally wail at the thought new bits of it won't be around next year. I love the characters. I'd die if I met *any* of the actors. I have a horrible fear that the movies will suck and a wonderful hope that they won't. In short, I'm completely and hopelessly in love.

*is overly emotional*

I completely get the emotional attachment to Stargate. It's far from perfect - there are shows with better scripts (anything by Joss Whedon *g*), more consistent acting, more interesting ideas... The effects are pretty good, but that's never a thing on which to hang a show. But there's something about it that just... grabbed me and won't let go. I really can't work out what that is, except that it seems to have a spark of humanity to it that I love. It's not the coolest or the cleverest, but it has got character and heart, and it feels like the people involved are truly involved - they care about the show they're making.

*joins you in being overly emotional*

Exactly. And that, right there, is the reason I kept watching, even though at first I really didn't see anything special about it. Part of it is that even though it has it's share of canonical hiccups, as it were, you get the feeling that the writers truly care about What Went Before.

Okay, I think I need to give you three prompts and help distract you from teh evilness of teh ficathon:

1. Sam and Daniel have a frank discussion about how they're both in love with Jack.
2. A really angsty piece about Jack's time as a popsicle...from Teal'c's POV. (poor, frozen Jack).
3. Cam and Felger getting together to play with the SG-1 action figures.

*has surprised herself with the last one*

Also, I have a few episodes I keep going back to--I've watched WoO and most of season four too many times to admit...but my big one? 200. I could watch that one every week, just because it's so funny. (I also have a soft spot for the Star Wars ripoff parody in...Full Circle?--they did such a great job with making it completely subtlely obvious.)

They're such fanboys! *wants to work on prompts and ficathon stuff* Hm, maybe I'll incorporate the first one into my ficathon entry... no, I can't be that cruel to the person I'm writing for...

Well, see...that *was* after the whole "I've never watched Star Wars" fiasco. I always figured Teal'c made him watch it, he fell in a slight stupor of geeky love, and memorized it.

In fact, that would make a great prompt.

Jack held up a video. Teal'c grinned, Daniel groaned, Sam looked vaguely horrified.

"Again?" Sam said, then tacked on a "sir?"

Jack looked offended. "It's a classic!"

Daniel said, "But we've seen it at least four times!"

Jack and Teal'c both glared.

Teal'c said, "That is incorrect. We have only seen this episode of the original Star Wars trillogy once. We have seen the first two episodes twice each."

Jack said, "Yeah. And we have to watch "Return of the Jedi" again. To make it even!"

Daniel and Sam exchanged a sigh.

Daniel said, "Fine. But this is the last time."

Jack smirked. "We'll see, Danny-boy. We'll see."
