Prompt free to good home?

Another SG-1 fic I'll never get around to writing: 'Life in the Upper Pleistocene', an elderly Sam and Daniel stranded far back in prehistory, sat on a hill overlooking their village, with the sun burning off the mist of a brand new day, contemplating the evolution of apples. Inspired by this picture and article.

50 Top Tropes

pepper: Pepperpot (Default)
I've tidied up and alphabetised the cliché list (OCD much?), tweaked, changed, and clarified some things, and added a few things I thought were missing, to bulk it up to a nice, round 50. Is it wrong that my aim is to do everything on this list at least once?

Also, I think this should be rebranded as tropes, rather than clichés, because it has a less negative connotation. IMO. I mean, yes, often they are clichés, but I've also seen them done well and interestingly. Or amusingly crackish. *g*

Tropes, dammit. Tropes! )
pepper: Sam Carter and MacGyver (Mac/Sam)
Title: Islands In The Stream
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 3,985
Featured Character(s): Sam Carter, MacGyver
Pairing(s): Sam/Mac
Summary: Sam takes a little vacation with a like-minded genius.
A/N:  From six (!) of [profile] abyssinia4077 's LeapGate prompts - reposted here as one thing, as it's effectively one story (and it's also kind of a sequel to my ficlet Inspiration, which is NC-17 and was from a prompt from [personal profile] oxoniensis 's Porn Battle V.) What can I say: [personal profile] surreallis leaves these Sam/Mac prompts around, and I can't help myself. :)

British Museum project - links

  • Feb. 8th, 2008 at 1:46 PM
pepper: Daniel Jackson looking at archaeology porn (Archaeology porn)
For reference, and so I can keep track (and because it's quite satisfying to look at a lot of crossed-off items on a 'To Do' list), these are the prompts I've had for my British Museum project, with links to the finished ones.

[profile] abyssinia4077: Daniel, room 24 - done.
[personal profile] aoife_hime: gen or Sam/Jack, room 17 - done
                        gen or Sam/Jack, rooms 92-94.
[personal profile] sg1danny: team, room 64,Daniel takes the rest of the team to the museum - done.
Daniel and Sam, Room 63. A little 'sibling' bonding.
[personal profile] holdouttrout: Sam/Jack, room 13 - done
                          Sam/Teal'c, room 51
[profile] shutthef_up: Sam and Daniel, room 1
[profile] vickyocean: Jack, room 49
[personal profile] aurora_novarum: Daniel and Sam, room 27 - done.
[personal profile] surreallis: Teal'c or Teal'c/Vala, room 23.
[profile] rigel_7: gen, room 9
                gen, room 3
[personal profile] majorsamfan: Sam/Teal'c, room 56 - 'The Queen Of The Night' (Ishtar), or something about Iraq memories for Sam and/or Jack
[personal profile] quarryquest: room 33, Kwan Yin statues.

I think, for the moment, that's enough prompts.

Things of niceness.

10 things that make me happy (gakked from [personal profile] aurora_novarum). A nice thing to do on a Friday.

Okay, my idea: I'd like to go to the British Museum more often, because it's just around the corner, plus I really ought to step away from my desk for my hour's lunchbreak, if I can. So I was thinking, to force encourage me to do this, I will offer my Stargate fic services.

Take a look at the museum's rooms here: Ground floor , Lower floor , Upper floor ...and pick a room number (or just choose a random number between 1 – 94). Comment with the number, and your preference of pairing or gen (bearing in mind that I've only watched half of season 1 of Atlantis, and haven't seen season 10 of SG-1). I will then go to that room, and write at least 100 words of fic based on something I see in there.

Whaddya think?

ETA: Okay, thank you! No more prompts for the moment, although I may reopen it for prompts again in the future. I'd love to have done a fic for every room in the whole museum, some day...

Okay, pencils down. Time for the results of my daft little poll (whee, Excel is fun!):

* Please pick the colour you think I would originally have had, if you picture it as now being grey / white (!!!)

** Feel free not to answer this one, but it is relevant to what I'm curious about, so I'd very much appreciate it. I've locked answers so they can only be seen by me. Again, if it's grey / white, please choose the colour it used to be. And I'm not including all subtleties of colour - please just choose the closest.

*** After I've finished my apocafic, of course. For the WIPs in question, look here and here.

I was just thinking about my fic writing habits, and started to wonder... when did I last write Sam/Jack? I had to check, and the last fics / ficlets I've written have been, from most recent and working backwards -
  • Sam/Daniel
  • gen
  • gen
  • gen
  • Jack/Teal'c, Sam/Daniel, Daniel/Jonas
  • Sam/Cam
  • gen
  • Jack/Felger (!!!)
  • gen
  • gen
  • And, finally, Sam/Jack

I haven't written Sam/Jack since April. APRIL! And I didn't sign up for the [profile] sjficathon, either, because of time, other ficathons I want to do ([profile] gateverse_remix  and [community profile] apocalypse_kree), and the idea that I might write, oh, something of my own choice, sometime soon (hahaha).
Why am I not writing Sam/Jack? I still go on and on about it in other peoples' ljs. What's happened? Am I sick? *checks pulse, checks temperature, frets*

Must go write Sam/Jack immediately. Any requests?

edit: *squee!* On-going commment fic that is cuter than a basketful of puppies!

For the 'three things I would never, ever write' meme. Previous efforts here. Prompt from [personal profile] holdouttrout, who is enabling me to procrastinate on my SDficathon story: Cam and Felger getting together to play with the SG-1 action figures.
Man. This went in totally a different direction than I was expecting.

I have such a shiny house now. We spring-cleaned this weekend, because we've got someone coming round tonight because of... something to do with us moving house. Perhaps I should be a little more aware of the whys and wherefores, but it's so boring. I just want to wander around the place going 'Ooh! Shiny windows! Shiny tiles! Dust-free lampshades!' *g* I swear, you could eat your dinner off the top of my kitchen cupboards.
Okay, it'd be a weird place to eat, you'd probably hit your head on the light, the food would taste slightly of kitchen cleaner, and I'd murder you if you got my lovely clean cupboards messed up... but you wouldn't die of, er, dirt poisoning.
I wonder what the estate agent / whoever's coming will make of my little Stargate action figures scene on my speakers. Sam is messing with the speaker wiring, Jack is guarding her whilst she does her skiense thing, Vala has sat down on a speaker, casually brandishing her zat, Teal'c has his zat cannon to guard everyone, and Daniel is on look-out, with his radio (because he kept dropping his gun – typical). Oh, and the Stargate is behind them all.
I'm never going to grow up, am I? (And yes, I need to get a Cam.)
p.s. I'm also still willing to take prompts here for the 'three things I'd never write' meme. Because my SDficathon story just makes me want to cry.
Gakked from [profile] triciabyrne1978: 27 questions that (allegedly) no one would ever think to ask. Mainly, it seems, because they're a bit pointless. *g*:

pepper: Pepperpot (Cuddle a Colonel)
Gakked from [profile] kellifer_fic   :

Name three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return, I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them. (Assuming, you know, that I have some idea what the fandom is, etc.)

Do your worst! :-)

Me, procrastinating on my Sam/Daniel fic? Naaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Actually, I've written 500+ words on it today, so I'm feeling productive. Although I'd feel more productive if I could work out What Happens Next. If I get it finished by this weekend, is anyone up for a quick beta? I don't think it'll be much more than 1,500 words when finished.

edit: Thanks to [profile] abyssinia4077 for the prompts - this one bit me quickly!

edit2: Jack/Felger (Avenger 2.0 spoilers)...

Rescue )

edit3: OMG, you must read this right now! [profile] abyssinia4077  put all three of her prompts in one fic! Genius stuff (scroll down, it's in the comments). Hahaha!

I love this meme.

Christmas party reel fic

pepper: Pepperpot (Wheee!)
Okay, there's nothing actually Christmassy about this - it's just the best idea I've had in a long time... because it brings the fic to me! YES! YESSSS!!!

It's the reel that's shown at the SGC Christmas party, in order to humiliate and embarrass as many people as possible.

Oh yes.

So far, I've written the original prompt[personal profile] crazedturkeywrote fic, I wrote a follow-up, and [profile] linnet_101, [profile] niamaea, and [personal profile] holdouttroutwrote comment fic (scroll down - I couldn't work out how to link to each individual comment fic).

I'm still trying to come up with ideas (McKay! Invisible Jack! Urgo! Teal'c doing a little Elvis dance of triumph!), and if anyone else feels like joining the fun, please feel free. It's like little writing snacks. So moreish. *g*

And I wonder who did the editing? The SGC security guys? Walter? Hammond? I'm thinking Siler, but that's 'cause I love Siler.

*steeples hands like Burns* Eeeexcellent.

edit: w00t! More comment fic! More from [personal profile] crazedturkey (scroll down in this post), and [profile] sjfan (on the follow-up link, above).

More exerpts from the SGC Christmas party reel (for original post, see here):

There will be further silliness as and when I think of it. This is good to do on my journey home, I've discovered.

edit: Whee! Now with comment fic from [profile] linnet_101!

edit2: And more comment fic from [profile] niamaea! This is the best idea I've had yet - the fic is coming to me. *g*

edit3: *does dance of glee at own cleverness in coming up with a way to bring the fic to me* [personal profile] holdouttrout wrote me comment fic too! *hugs*

edit4: [profile] sjfan has joined in the fun, too, with some Janet fic! *glees*

I had a thought (it happens sometimes): the reel that's shown at every SGC Christmas party, and which is mentioned in fanon many times. We should write this. By 'we', I mean I don't want to do it on my own I have three so far, but they're mostly just silly pratfalls -I'm sure there must be people out there with much funnier ideas. And they're delightfully snack-sized. Go on, just the one...

Oh, and it sort of fits with the fact that it's April Fool's Day this coming Sunday, too.

So here are mine, to start. If you'd like to join in, you're welcome to post it as comment fic (because that would be love), or on your own lj (please let me know so I can read it, though!). Or this could all be collected... somewhere... I dunno, I haven't thought it through that clearly.

Eesh. This is why I never volunteer to be a mod. I'm not cut out for organisation.

Stuntman )

Anyone else want to have a go?

edit: Eeee! [personal profile] crazedturkey  wrote me fic! And it's so funny! *runs off, chortling*

edit2: Now with follow-ups and comment fic

Quick new fic: The Midas Touch

  • Mar. 21st, 2007 at 2:23 PM
pepper: Pepperpot (Zoiks!)
Title: The Midas Touch
Author: Pepper
Rating: PG (it's all in your mind)
Disclaimer: Recognisable characters not mine.
Pairing(s): Sam/Teal'c
Summary: Wherein Jack learns that he should knock and wait.
A/N: From a discussion in [profile] linnet_101's lj, where I said that Teal'c "once helped Sam to paint her entire body gold, after she'd finally got up the courage to ask him about his reasons for the make-up. It made her look a bit jaundiced." And [personal profile] moonshayde  said someone should write it. And then [profile] linnet_101  was encouraging me to write drabbles for to kick off my mood of meh. So...

It's Friday, I've just joined [profile] kellifer_fic's [profile] schmoop_agecom (because I've thought of a story so schmoopy that it needs to be herded with creatures of its own kind, for camouflage), everyone on my flist seems to be writing stuff that's making me want to simultaneously laugh my socks off and hug you all, it's dark, and I'm wearing sunglasses.
Okay, last two aren't true. But the rest are. And actually it is kinda dark in here. Can't we open the blinds? I feel like I haven't seen the sun in months. *pokes mole-like colleagues*
Lalala, I'm just rabbiting. MS Word is badly educated. My vocabulary is much better than its. (Okay, and more colloquial, admittedly, but it doesn't recognise some words that aren't made up by people on lj, too.) This makes me feel smug, even if it's like proclaiming my superiority over some nerk off Big Brother.
Thank you all for your prompts recently, guys. They were most excellently inspiring. I've done four of six – the other two involve Cam, and I want to watch a few more episodes of him before I try writing him again. Study him closely. Okay, yeah, that's purely an excuse to watch teh pretty, so sue me.
Been watching Green Wing series 2 this week. Dreamed Tamsin Greig was my friend, partly because she really reminds me of a RL friend of mine. Also there were zombies, and I was in a greenhouse, choosing jewellery... eh. And Sue White is teh funny. "Do I look like a mug? Have I got a handle? Am I made of china? Am I kept in a cupboard or on a small wooden tree? Would you like to put your lips on my rim? You may answer that question, the others were rhetorical."
*meanders off again*

Title: Stranded
Author: Pepper
Rating: PG
Season: Er... 3-7-ish.
Disclaimer: Characters aren't mine, blah blah blah.
Featured Character(s): Paul Davis, Daniel
Pairing(s): Paul/Daniel
Summary: "...Engine troubles, you say?.."
A/N: Prompt from [personal profile] nandamai: "Daniel/Paul stranded and/or stuck together somewhere (anywhere!) would make me jump for joy." (Yes, I totally chickened out of the Jack/Teal'c prompt. What can I say, I'm a wuss. Pass the brain bleach.)

This is not pirate fic! Dammit!

Title: Heart Of Glass
Author: Pepper
Rating: PG for swearage
Season: Pre-Stargate
Disclaimer: Characters aren't mine, blah blah blah.
Featured Character(s): Jack, Sara
Pairing(s): Jack/Sara
Summary: Jack slowed the bike to a crawl as he passed the woman for the third time, but she still didn't look up.
A/N: Prompt from [profile] vickyocean: " Jack met Sara." I'd tried to resist writing stories about Jack and Sara, but oh, a prompt... I couldn't fight it any longer.
Previous two new prompt fics here and here.

New fic: Tiggers Like Everything

pepper: Pepperpot (Default)
Title: Tiggers Like Everything
Author: Pepper
Rating: G
Season: Whatever
Disclaimer: Characters aren't mine, blah blah blah.
Featured Character(s): Jack, Teal'c
Pairing(s): None
Summary: Jack and Teal'c go bowling.
A/N: Sheer idiocy, the result of a prompt from [personal profile] splash_the_cat: "Jack and Teal'c friendship. Bowling, if you want a "doing what" scenario." (The idiocy is entirely my fault, however. *g*) I haven't been bowling in forever, and was never that good at it (I blame the horrible shoes), so forgive me if I fudge the details slightly.
