Things of niceness.

pepper: Pepperpot (Wheee)
10 things that make me happy (gakked from [personal profile] aurora_novarum). A nice thing to do on a Friday.

1. RDA's acting in General Hospital. See the wonderful vid on [personal profile] surreallis's recent post. Dear lord but he was awful - and yet, still adorable. (See also Cold Lazarus for an object lesson in why practice is a Very Good Thing.)

2. Posts of glee. Go and add more glee!

3. Making my own tea blend, which I am definitely going to do soon. You see, there's a shop in Covent Garden where you can choose the tea types (lapsang, Assam, etc), add in other flavourings (rose petals, dried oranges, and the like), spritz it with a spray of orange oil, lemon oil, mint oil, etc - and then, you know, buy it, take it home, and make tea with it.

4. Tickets to and a room at Dragon*Con. (Now all I need to get are the flights...)

5. Vegetarian haggis for dinner tonight. Yes.

6. The warm, fuzzy feeling that someone, somewhere is saying nice things about me, when I get a sudden rash of 'Favorite Story' / 'Favorite Author' notifications from ff.net, out of the blue.

7. My Stargate mug, with colour-change Gate - so that when you fill it with hot water, the silhouettes of SG-1 disappear into the wormhole.

8. Glittery purple bracelets.

9. New String Theory!

10. Going to the British Museum at lunchtime. Aside from all the pretties, it's such a very nice space. The light in the Great Court is so comfortable on the eyes, and I love the stairs, broad and just the right height, stone worn soft from all the visitors. And it gave me an idea – see below.

Okay, my idea: I'd like to go to the British Museum more often, because it's just around the corner, plus I really ought to step away from my desk for my hour's lunchbreak, if I can. So I was thinking, to force encourage me to do this, I will offer my Stargate fic services.

Take a look at the museum's rooms here: Ground floor , Lower floor , Upper floor ...and pick a room number (or just choose a random number between 1 – 94). Comment with the number, and your preference of pairing or gen (bearing in mind that I've only watched half of season 1 of Atlantis, and haven't seen season 10 of SG-1). I will then go to that room, and write at least 100 words of fic based on something I see in there.

Whaddya think?

ETA: Okay, thank you! No more prompts for the moment, although I may reopen it for prompts again in the future. I'd love to have done a fic for every room in the whole museum, some day...

YAY you going to Dragon*Con!!!!

Vegetarian haggis for dinner tonight. Yes.
*blink*
seriously? Okay, when I had regular haggis it tasted like severely overspiced lamb. Is the vegetarian better?

Your mug sounds awesome and the British museum is very awesome and if I was anywhere near you I'd totally join you for lunchtime explorations!
(plus, nifty plan, yo)

Well, I've not tried proper haggis, so I can't really compare - but vegetarian haggis is basically grains and spices (and possibly some onion or something, I'm not sure), squished together. It's not terribly exciting, as a meal, but it's okay. I'm mainly having it because it's Burns Night, and I like doing that sort of thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burns_night

I love my mug. I have to stop and watch it changing, every time. :) Ah, wish you could come with me to the British Museum, that'd be fun. And YAY DRAGON*CON! *glees*

Yay for happiness memes. Just, yay. I love starting off Fridays with a dose of happiness!

I think I'm damn jealous that you can walk to the British Museum from where you work, that's what I think! You need to do this, if only so I can live vicariously through your visits because one visit is most certainly not enough!!!

And as far as your drabble meme thing, I pick Ground Floor room 17 (because that was one of my FAVORITE rooms from what I remember, and nostalgia is a good thing), and 2nd Floor rooms 92-94 (because I never got there and I'm kicking myself for obvious reasons).
[identity profile] aoife-hime.livejournal.com wrote:

Oh, and as far as pairings/gen goes, do whatever strikes your fancy. I'm good with a fun gen fic, or Sam/Jack if you find it appropriate.

See, the stupid thing is, I don't go and enjoy it half as much as I should - hence why this meme.

*grumbles* 92-94 are absolutely the furthest point in the museum, you know.

;) (Really, ooh, nice choices - I have been there before, and they're lovely rooms.)

*innocent grin*

You know you want to see Japan... you know I want to see Japan-themed stories...

After looking at those maps, I've come to find I actually saw a good portion of the museum in my one go. Which would explain just why I was so tired and hungry when I left that day!

Man, I've got to get on the whole Dragon Con thing...

I do love the British museum to bits, a lot of the stuff on the walls is from there. I've made the promise to hit up the Smithsonian Muesuems more, esp as they are free.

To celebrating geekdom!

The Smithsonian sounds equally awesome. I must visit it someday. Yay for museum geeks! Museums are good for the soul. It's lucky a lot of it is behind glass, though, because otherwise I'm sorely tempted to reach out and touch.

Man, I've got to get on the whole Dragon Con thing...

YES. YOU SHOULD. *g*

You should visit! I still haven't hit every museum within the institution (there are 14? 15? Museums) but hello - free!

I fully intend to go to Dragon Con again - I just have to plan for it and all that lovely stuff. It's just currently on my "not a priority but should be" list.

Vegetarian haggis? Really? Sounds a lot more appetizing than the real thing, though.

If it's not too much trouble, Sam & Daniel, Room 1 (Enlightenment) please? That would be so very cool!

Thanks!

Yup - really vegetarian haggis. I maintain that vegetarian caviar is a weirder idea. :)

Heh - Enlightenment, will do! If it's the room I think it is, it's displays within what is mostly a library - very Daniel. Well, okay, the whole place is very Daniel...

I'll play Upper Floor room #49 Roman Britain- Jack.

You should see RDA in the episode of Fact of Life where he plays Tootie's uncle. There's a teeny weeny bit of over acting. Plus he look like a wookie next to the very short Tootie.

Yay DragonCon! I'm already excited!

I think I've seen that on YouTube somewhere. I didn't click on it, because I was too scared of what "Richard Dean Anderson Facts Of Life" might entail. Now I know it's a TV programme, though...

Well, until very recently, room 3 had an exhibition around the Gayer-Anderson Cat (http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights/highlight_objects/aes/b/bronze_figure_of_a_seated_cat.aspx) - which I did actually go visit. So I could do something around that - or I could wait and see what opens up next in the room (it's a tiny room, so no doubt the turnaround is pretty fast). I'm also waiting for room 1 to open up again at the moment, so I can do shutthef_up's prompt. But I like their Assyrian stuff, too. :D

And I think I can probably work out the ship / no ship thing... *g*

Ooh just found this ...
Big fan of the British Museum. Often go there and try to translate the hieroglyphs. Never get much done as I end up doing kids' homework ...

Could you do me a fiction. Pretty Pretty Please?

Room 33 - China, India, South Asia and Southeast Asia

Can you please use this (http://www.sxli.net/Pix/UK/London/BritMuseum/LdBritMuseum_1036.JPG/) as your inspiration. Its two Kwan Yins. I wrote this (http://quarryquest.livejournal.com/391915.html#cutid1/) about the curious link between Oma Desala and the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

If you can't find them in that room there are definitely a whole load in the Age of Englightenment exhibition in the Kings Library. They are next to a load of Egyptian stuff I have also had a bash at translating.

p.s. My imagination always provides me with a glowy Ascended Daniel (who then descends and turns up in his ascended!sweater) when I wander into the Great Court. We have had a number of interesting conversations when I have visited (and I wrote my first fic in the fandom set there too).

p.p.s. If you go there in your lunchtime we ought to meet up sometime and talk Stargate. I'm only up the road in Maida Vale ...

Re: Ooh just found this ...
No probs - and highly appropriate, Chinese New Year, and all that. :) I'll give the Kwan Yins a go, but do you mind awfully if I write about something else, if that inspires me instead? I'm trying to push myself to write a bit more to specific assignments (partly what this whole prompt thing is about), but I'm not quite there yet...

Heh, yes - I can completely see Daniel in the Great Court. Although one might get snow blind.

And, that might be nice, sometime.
