Well, if they're very fresh, they shouldn't need it. Basically, egg white breaks down a lot quicker in the fridge - fresh eggs should hold together in a pan (if you're doing poached eggs, for e.g., that's very important). Depending on how hot the climate is, I guess - I've no idea if it's best to keep them refrigerated if you live somewhere really hot. And in fairness, if you're planning to keep them for a longer while, they last longer in a fridge. They just aren't as nice, IMO.

We used to keep chickens when I was a kid, see, and my parents were vehemently against battery farming, refrigerated eggs, or eggs that had been kept for any length of time. :)
