Question for medical folks, lay folks, and, heck, anyone who wants to give me their tuppence-worth of opinion, I'm not picky: [Poll #1199230][Poll #1199230]
I suspect a lot would depend on which two major organs - like with kidneys people can survive a while on dialysis. Brain, liver, lungs, heart are rather problematic though...
Honestly, I suspect there isn't enough detail given in the show to be sure, so a fic author could adjust it to whatever works best for a story (or am I assuming too much? :) )
True - I hadn't really thought about the exact details, and yeah, I guess it depends on how which organs and how much people can be patched together and kept going without them. Hm.
And I could totally imagine, depending on what's going on, being able to keep him somewhat stable, slowly-fading for about a month or two with careful medical treatment. I mean, with lots of handwaving for him being magically created in the first place.
I'm pretty sure liver/heart/lungs/brain are main ones that without them you are gone BAM. Others maybe less instantaneously hopeless, though certainly severely problematic and I doubt the treatment is much fun for the little time left.
I just checked again, and Janet says, "His heart valves are defective, his renal function is a mess, and I have serious questions about his lungs."
From that I'd infer that heart, kidneys and lungs are the main culprits. I have a vague notion that heart valve stuff is one of those things where you have to take care and can be okay-ish - and then die very suddenly. There's kidney dialysis, as you mentioned, and lungs - well, all depends on how serious Janet's serious questions are, I guess.
And, yes to the handwaving. Vigorous handwaving. *g*

(Writing fic? I don't know what you mean. :) )
