Stargate books - Survival Of The Fittest

I realised (thanks, [profile] izzildor!) that I forgot to say anything much about Survival Of The Fittest, despite a) finishing it, and 2, or b) putting it on my recommended list (definitely my second favourite so far, after Sacrifice Moon).

So, some probably very disjointed thoughts, because omg 6:30am is way too early to be doing this:

Wonderful that the secondary characters got such a lot to do - and some of my favourite secondary characters, too: Janet, Bra'tac, George... They all rocked, as they should. Janet got to experience some of what SG-1 usually go through, and to bond with the team a little more. George and Bra'tac did some old warrior bonding of their own, and were awesomesauce.

It ranged nicely over both Earth and offworld, and they played with one of my favourite Goa'ulds, and some of the less-usual mythology. Lots of whumping (poor Sam! Poor Jack!), some angst that wasn't overly emo (unlike, oh, say, Alliances), lots of action, and I'm now mentally adding input from this book to my imagined scene of what happened when Jack, Teal'c and Daniel went to the jello wrestling.

So there you go.

I'd heard third-hand that Siren Song's not very good - hmm, I shall have to give it a go and see. I've avoided reading anything resembling an actual review of it, because I'd rather go to it without preconceptions. Well, give it a go after I've finished reading Barque of Heaven, that is.

And no, I've not read or even heard of that fic - got a link? *bats eyelashes appealingly*

Hmm; well, I'll be very interested to see what you think of SS, then. I loved it to bits, and I hadn't read any negative reviews of it... but then, I haven't been going out of my way to find a wide variety of reviews of the novels, anyway. (Which is why I can't resist discussing them when they get mentioned on my flist. :) And yeah, I know there's a community; I haven't jumped in there, yet. Dunno why; maybe I'd rather discuss them with people I know, than with a larger group; not sure.)

I agree, though, that I wouldn't want to know very much about any of the novels going into them. I shall zip my lips, then. :)

...There's a community?

:) Well, patently, I've not gone out of my way to find out about them - I find it hard to concentrate on fandom novels as it is, and knowing about bits of it beforehand makes it almost impossible for me not to skim-read them. And hence why I'm posting about them on here - so I can get the squee to come to me. It's my cunning plan. *g*

Ta! I shall go have a look at those links.
