pepper: Pepperpot (Geek chic)
I feel like I've been kind of a grinch lately, at least in places, so – sorry about that. I'll be better when it gets sunnier, and when I figure out my job situation (temp contract coming to an end soon, possibly – may or may not be renewed, and either way it's not likely to be a problem, but it has me a little antsy anyhow).

Also, the British Museum thing is temporarily on a back burner, 'cause I've got a couple of other fics that are more urgent, and I'm trying to force myself to knuckle down to them. And srsly, if I don't get this apocafic finished sometime soon, I'm gonna go nuts. Crazy. Wacko... etc.

And now, the movie meme. 'Cause it's fun.

Rules:
1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

ETA: Some hints added, because I think some of them were difficult. And I want you to get them!

1. "I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl. We ate lobster and drank pina coladas. At sunset we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over and over and over...?"  Groundhog Day, guessed by [profile] annienau08.
I've added the last line of the quote.

2. "I like to wear women's clothes. Panties, brassieres, sweaters, pumps. It's just something I do. And I can't believe I'm telling you this, but I really like you, and I don't want it getting in the way down the road." Ed Wood, guessed by [personal profile] rydra_wong

3. "Wait! We cannot break bread with you. You have taken the land which is rightfully ours. Years from now my people will be forced to live in mobile homes on reservations. Your people will wear cardigans, and drink highballs. We will sell our bracelets by the road sides, and you will play golf, and eat hot hors d'oeuvres. My people will have pain and degradation. Your people will have stick shifts. The gods of my tribe have spoken. They said do not trust the Pilgrims, especially Sarah Miller. And for all of these reasons I have decided to scalp you and burn your village to the ground."  Addams Family Values (I'll give you that), guessed by [personal profile] rydra_wong.

4. "You are as abandoned and noisy as any character in a porn film, Laura. You are Ian's plaything, responding to his touch with shrieks of orgasmic delight. No woman in the history of the world is having better sex than sex you are having with Ian... in my head." High Fidelity, guessed by [profile] shutthef_upand [personal profile] triskellian.

5. "All is fair in love and war, and this is revolution!"  Top Hat, guessed by [profile] annienau08.
Think b&w and famous dance partnerships.

6. "Well, yeah, man, you see, like, all the tanks we come up against are bigger and better than ours, so all we can hope to do is, like, scare 'em away, y'know. This gun is an ordinary 76mm but we add this piece of pipe onto it, and the Krauts think, like, maybe it's a 90mm. We got our own ammunition, it's filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes pretty pictures, scares the hell outta people! And we have a loudspeaker, when we go into battle we play music, very loud. It kind of... calms us down." Kelly's Heroes, guessed by [personal profile] supplyship, and allllllmost by [personal profile] tejas.

7. "Gentlemen, the lunchbox has landed!" The Full Monty, guessed by [personal profile] quarryquest.

8. "Tulio, did you ever imagine it would end like this?" "The horse is a surprise..."  The Road To El Dorado, guessed by [profile] annienau08.
A cartoon movie, and not a Disney one.

9. "EDWARD TEACH, sometimes known as Captain Blackbeard, when you come to die, may your body and soul be racked between this world and the next, always to be alone! May this curse hold fast and true, may you be held forevermore in limbo, until such time as there be found in you, most wicked of all villains -- some spark of human goodness! Well, good night, Mr. Walker. Sleep well! The dining room will be open for breakfast at 7:30 AM. Please be prompt."
Disney live-action movie from the 60s.

10. "I can't believe I have a bunch of dead people watching videos in my living room." Truly, Madly, Deeply - guessed by [personal profile] rydra_wong(who is quick).

11. "I apologize for leaving without saying goodbye, but I seem to have outstayed my welcome in Colorado. The truly extraordinary is not permitted in science and industry. Perhaps you'll find more luck in your field, where people are happy to be mystified. You will find what you are looking for in this box. Alley has written you a thorough set of instructions. I add only one suggestion on using the machine: destroy it. Drop it to the bottom of the deepest ocean. Such a thing will bring you only misery." The Prestige, guessed by [profile] rigel_7.

12. "I never dreamed that any mere physical experience could be so stimulating!"
Get your minds out of the gutter! The lady is talking about sailing through whitewater rapids.

13. "To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people. I've known sheep who could outwit you. I've worn dresses with higher IQs, but you think you're an intellectual, don't you, ape?"  A Fish Called Wanda, guessed by [personal profile] triskellian.

14. "Then one day I hear "Reach for it, mister." I spun around, and there I was standing face to face with a six year old kid. Well, I just laid down my guns and walked away. Little bastard shot me in the ass!" Blazing Saddles, guessed by [personal profile] fearless_leader.

15. "How long could we maintain? I wondered. How long until one of us starts raving and jabbering at this boy? What will he think then? This same lonely desert was the last known home of the Manson family; will he make that grim connection when my attorney starts screaming about bats and huge manta rays coming down on the car? If so, well, we'll just have to cut his head off and bury him somewhere, 'cause it goes without saying that we can't turn him loose. He'd report us at once to some kind of outback Nazi law enforcement agency and they'll run us down like dogs. Jesus, did I say that? Or just think it? Was I talking? Did they hear me?" Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, guessed by [profile] shutthef_up.

High Fidelity! That one. Is it that?

Oh, and I almost know 13. Umm. Is it A Fish Called Wanda?

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? I think Charlie Sheen starred, but I can't be sure of that. It's been a long time since I've seen that movie.

Young Donald Sutherland.

Umm... tanks parked in... umm.. an Italian town? They were scamming the Germans.

GAH, I'm probably mixing this up with three or four other WWII movies. Goodness knows I've seen just about all of them a dozen times or more.

Aw, since you ask so nicely... ;) Kelly's Heroes.

Honestly, as far as I can tell, there's about ten or twenty similar films, all with variations on the same cast and same plot - I get very confused. But that one's my favourite, because of Donald Sutherland as Oddball.

Of the remaining five, one of them is hugely well-known and probably about 80% of my flist will have seen it more than once, one is a cartoon, one is a (probably fairly obscure) Disney movie, and two are well-known classic films.

It's KILLING me that no one's getting #1. I should've posted the full quote, as it is on IMDb -

"I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl. We ate lobster and drank pina coladas. At sunset we made love like sea otters. *That* was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over and over and over...?"

I always find myself watching Kelly's Heroes when it's on - I keep waiting for the oddly sad scene with the tanks and the loud country music, and then find myself hooked.
