I think I could actually count on one hand the number of times I remember seeing Jack smile in the entire run of Stargate.

Ah, very true, but I think he's often cheerful without smiling. *points at icon for example* Sometimes his straight-facedness is serious, sometimes it's light. Definitely part of the acting, because RDA seems to smile a lot.

I have to agree, though - the grouchiness is adorable. :) Sad!Jack I just want to squish.

Ooh, that AU is so intriguing! Particularly the Colonel/General thing, and the circumstances behind that difference. Heh: we should compare theories on redial in a couple of weeks. :)
