Aw, you guys... you're all lovely. A lot of hugs was just what I wanted, so thank you.

My initial reaction to Stargate Atlantis, or What I Was Thinking Whilst I Waited For Another Boring Meeting To Start...

"Have you seen Colonel Sheppard?" asked Sam, tapping her fingers irritably on the security desk. Sheppard was visiting with some new high-tech Ancient stuff that Sam was itching to get her hands on – if they could just find the damn man.

The security guard nodded. "Yes, ma'am. He's with General O'Neill and Colonel Mitchell. I believe they were headed to the commissary."

Sam's flinch was almost imperceptible. "Really? All three of them, in one room… at the same time?"

The security guard looked bewildered. "Yes, ma'am. Is there a problem?"

Sam and Daniel exchanged looks. "Uh, no. No, there's no problem," said Sam, unconvincingly. "Daniel, want to go get a coffee?"

"No," said Daniel, promptly. As they strolled away, he stared at the ceiling. "It's kind of reassuring, though, in a way," he said, thoughtfully.

Sam looked sideways at him. "It is?" She couldn't see how having Colonels Mitchell and Sheppard and General O'Neill all together in one place was in any way reassuring. The statistical probability of alien attack had just tripled, for a start.

"Yeah. All that Alpha Male posturing... it's sort of like – like having your dad around, swapping lies with his fishing buddies."

Sam flailed her hands, grimacing. "Ack! Shut up right now, Daniel."

Daniel grinned. "Squicky?"

"Squicky," agreed Sam, looking disturbed.

"I bet you think of that, next time you and-"

"Daniel!" She glared at him, but after all these years he still wasn't intimidated. "I hate you."

"You love me," he said, cheerfully unrepentant.

The bastard was right, too.

ETA2: C'mon, is no one going to ask me what C19H28O2 means? Or can I assume you're all more knowledgeable than me and know already? :-)

Aw, thank you! I'm pleased you in particular think so. I do love 'em together, I must say - they're so cheerfully rotten to each other. In a loving way.

And just, the thought of Cam, Jack, and Sheppard in one room together... I wonder if it's ever been written as OT3? *quails at the thought*

But yes - the universe would be ultimately saved in an incredibly dangerous, loose-cannon way, at the very last second, with lots of sarcastic remarks. My first thought, when Sheppard sat in that chair and it lit up, was "I wonder if the Ancient gene is connected to the smartass flyboy gene?"

I can see I'm going to need some more icons...

You know what? Sheppard/Mitchell is a surprisingly (maybe not surprisingly) popular pairing - there's one really interesting pre-series extrapolation on Sheppard and Mitchell serving together in Afghanistan with good-boy Mitchell not quite understanding bad-boy Sheppard - it's explicit slash, but also a really cool character study of 'em both (here is no water (http://frostfire-17.livejournal.com/40650.html)).

And I've seen some Sheppard/O'Neill - which is nearly as much of a messed up power dynamic as Mitchell/O'Neill and I've encountered at least one JAckson/Sheppard/Mitchell

But that OT3? O'Neill/Mitchell/Sheppard? Haven't found that one yet. Could be fascinating. And also really, really messed up. And pretty. But that many type A protective types in one relationship? Would explode!

The Ancient gene is SO connected to the smartass flyboy gene. In some ways O'Neill and Sheppard have a lot of similarities, even with their differences. And it would make sense that possessing that gene could produce a similar skill set...

I think it'd be quite difficult to write convincing O'Neill/Sheppard/Mitchell (I'm certainly not going to try it) - very messed up, and I can't see how they'd actually get to a point where they would be OT3 - I don't feel like any of them are quite that... well, uninhibited, for one thing. All three being career military, one of them being of higher rank - I think it'd take an apocalypse, at least. But yes. Pretty...

Cam doesn't have the Ancient gene, does he? Otherwise that'd be pretty conclusive evidence, within a scifi show anyhow, that being part-Ancient is related to being that particular hero type. :)

Ta for the fic rec, I'll have a look at that later.
