pepper: Pepperpot (Cuddle a Colonel)
The Elements of Style, by Strunk and White:

This book is good. It is useful. It is also tiny and funny. It can never be praised enough. It will improve your writing no end. Buy it, borrow it, steal it, do whatever you have to do to get your hands on it. Not that I'm advocating stealing it or anything. That would put you firmly on Santa's naughty list. Me, I'm hoping for the doll Santa promised me, Colonel Jack for preference, life-size or otherwise.

Wow, I went from Strunk and White to Stargate dolls in record time.

Reason I thought of it was I wanted to recommend to anyone writing fanfic (and reading this lj, of course) to have a look at this website, based on the book. It's just... superb.

Omigod, omigod, there actually ARE Stargate dolls! They've just come out! I went and checked, because last I looked there weren't any... and there they were! Santa brought me what I asked for!

Santa's the BEST!

edit: <bites nails, stares at letterbox, bites nails some more> My Camouflage Variant Jack O'Neill doll will come soon, right? Soon? Right...?

Re: Hmm
I believe so - the place I've ordered them from isn't too generous with the details, but it looks kinda... action-y. http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_614_1598&products_id=28750

I have a weakness for such things. It'll join the unnecessary amount of Wolverine action figures I have, and Rogue, and Neo, and Spike, and, um, Duke Nukem, and... oh, a bunch of alien / mutant bad guys, and the Statue of Liberty hand...

Wow.
All I have are some DRDs from Farscape. They're pretty cute, though.

Re: Wow.
Mostly they sit in a box together, in a sort of action-figurine-orgy-situation. :) I've confiscated all weapons, 'cause they only lose 'em. I mean to put them out properly somewhere, when I get a flat surface that's not otherwise covered in books, papers, telephones, and other assorted crap. Some day. Toy Story 2 makes me feel v. guilty.

Argh. I'm going home, because I'm still at work and it's nearly six PM. It's been great chatting in almost real-time, though!
