pepper: Pepperpot (Pepperpot)
Went for a walk on Saturday. Or 'hike' might be a better term – I'm not sure how far it was, exactly, but it was following part of a ten-mile trail, of which we covered a good portion. I'm still trying to find the information on how much (there are leaflets somewhere on this walk, if I can just find them…), but from the time it took and the ache in my legs, I'd say we did around eight miles. Not bad. Found a beautiful little lake, replete with waterlillies, in the depths of some woodland – about half an hour from our house. Lovely. Lots of guys fishing. My thoughts turned to Stargate, naturally.

We're lucky to live right on the edge of London, so there's a lot of greenery nearby. The trail we followed was part of the London Loop, which is a connected series of green spaces circling London. Theoretically, you can walk an entire circuit around London – but it's 150 miles, so I'm not desperate to do it next weekend or anything.

Got slightly sunburnt, which may have contributed to my restless sleep full of dreams that I was Marge Simpson on the run after witnessing a murder. Was very surreal – I was aware that I was a cartoon, yellow skin and all. Homer was a 'sleeper', an undercover double-agent, out to pin the murder on me. My brain is warped.

I've not got so far on the  [community profile] apocalypse_kreestory this weekend (I did work on it though, Abyssis, I swear!). I have a better idea what I'm aiming for – I just need to cut my nails and get on with it. *g* I don't usually tend to get much writing done on weekends, for some reason. I don't know why, but my brain doesn't seem to settle down to it - I'm much happier writing on weekday evenings. I tend to want to do more practical stuff – cooking, walking, laundry, that sort of stuff. It's probably a way of letting my brain tick over – not switching off, but kind of the reverse – giving my thoughts some room to bounce around, twist and turn, go lateral.

Made a quiche. Turned out perfect, which is a rare thing in my cooking (usually things taste nice enough, but my presentation leaves a lot to be desired). The bf made watermelon juice – basically blending and filtering an entire watermelon, which involved a lot of time, noise, and a sticky kitchen floor, but left us with a jug of the wonderful stuff. Myum.

Ow ow ow, my shoulders sting.

Okay, back to work.

Aloe vera.

You'll thank me later :)

Aha - I have aftersun lotion with aloe vera (actual aloe vera would be more effective, I presume, but I didn't have any around). I'm already on to it, thanks to my mum and her interest in natural remedies - witchhazel, lavender oil, aloe vera and all.

I love a doctor who'll prescribe such things! Go you! Not so long ago, that sort of thing (in the UK, at least) would have been considered hippy nonsense. :)

I am actually seriously considering doing a naturopathy course after I finish by correspondance part time. I suspect it'll be expensive, but I think it will really inform my practice :)

Good on you. I'm so glad that this sort of thing is becoming more a part of 'proper' medicine - because there's obviously a body of knowledge out there, and some of it works, some of it doesn't, but rarely if ever has it been scientifically studied, or taught by creditable organisations - at least until recently.

Ah yes and no.

I suspect if my colleagues knew what I was thinking I would be laughed at :).

But i tend to think that people these days want more natural medicine prescribed. If I don't point them in a safe direction, they'll do it themselves, and thats dangerous. Better they get help from me. that's what I think anyways :)

Ah, I see. Well, it's still a little more acceptable than it used to be - at least with the general public (judging by what's on sale in chemists). And that means doctors are more likely to study it, so it has a better chance of being scientifically examined, and the hazardous stuff can be weeded out, and the effective stuff promoted. *is optimist*

Heh, and I'm now thinking of you as a sort of Doctor Quinn: Medicine Woman. :D

Hee :) [livejournal.com profile] crazedturkey is thinking aloe vera and I want to push you to "Bag Balm" but considering how hard it is to find *here* I have no clue if you can find it in the UK. It's this thick, yellow stuff that is designed for cow's udders to help against chaffing from milking, but is our family's secret sunscreen remedy - I swear gets rid of a mild burn overnight and bad one in a few days (and much less unpleasantly).

Um. Sorry, I appear randomly spammy.

Yay hiking though! And, um, I wanna do a 150 mile loop around London! That sounds cool
hee :) on the fishing. Crazy how any little thing can make us think of our show.

I did work on it though, Abyssis, I swear!

Yay! You'll make it work, I have faith. (I'm almost to 8000 words and I think I'm almost halfway through my plot....I'm INSANE)

Sounds like a fun, yummy weekend. Here's to a productive writing week!

Er, I think I'll pass on the Bag Balm, this time - my sunburn is very slight, not enough to warrant the scouring of farm shops, vets, etc. :D

The only thing about the 150 mile loop of London is that it's not in the city enough, and not in the country enough - it's kind of mediocre. Some of it's lovely, but it's very patchy - we had to walk down a couple of really long residential streets, which was pretty boring (aside from observing people's front gardens). It'd be an accomplishment to do the whole thing, but there's much more interesting places to hike - national parks and the like. I do like having places to walk near home, though.

Blimey, 8000 words?! Wow. You are doing well - go you!

I can see that - the loop being a cool idea, but not being as neat as it could be. But yay nice places to walk near home. There's nothing quite like enjoying the outdoors by the power of your own two feet.

Blimey, 8000 words?! Wow. You are doing well - go you!

I guess. The scary thing is how much I still have to go. 8200 now and the Tok'ra are, I hope, *finally* showing up. This story just keeps going and going...I think Daniel's just being evasive - trying to keep the snake out of his head as long as possible.

My sj fic is turning out to be entirely maddening and unsubstantial, whereas my apocalypse_kree story is trying to be born first and is HUGE.

I also have problems writing on the weekend. But I often end up thinking better on the weekend, so I know what you mean.

I'm so glad I didn't sign up for the sjficathon. I feel slightly guilty about the fact that I'm just going to enjoy the hell out of all this S/J fic, and not contribute anything... slightly guilty. :)

It's good that at least one out of two fics is cooperating, right?

I think some people need their weekends to be completely different from their week. Some people can work on them, or write, or whatever - sometimes I can do that (if I'm being particularly gripped by something I'm writing), but generally I just have to stop and do something physical - although I feel that compulsion a lot more in summer, when I'm craving the outdoors.

I am definitely one of those people who needs something different on the weekends. I find that I don't reliably check my e-mail and the internet over the weekend, even though I'm addicted to it Mon-Fri. I also discovered, relatively quickly after starting my first "real" job, that I need to *do* stuff on the weekends, and not just stay at home. Otherwise I feel like I didn't really have a weekend.

So I go on dates, to gatherings of friends, on walks, to the library, shopping...anything outside of the house. And I stay sane.

Heh, for me? I just write whenever I'm doing something else. Really a pain, because now I have time and nothing to write.

Oh yes. I've finally understood that, when I have a holiday with lots of free time, I actually won't get anything written - it used to annoy me, but I'm busy more than I'm on holiday, so I figure it actually works out well for me, on balance. :)
