Well, I feel a longer post is in order, now I have a minute to breathe.
First off,
redial_the_gate . So exiting. A brief calendar of events, 'cause I know there's a lot of posts coming from it (we'll post reminders about all these things, no doubt, but I'm putting it here too for further pimpage):
Tuesday 24th July: discussion of the Stargate movie

Tuesday 24th July: discussion of the Stargate movie
Friday 27th July: watching Children of the Gods and talking on AIM (sign up here)
Tuesday 31st July: discussion of CoTG
Episode discussion and meta will go up every Tuesday (the AIM thing may or may not happen again, depending on how well it goes, and whether I/we have time).
We've already had some wonderful volunteers for doing initial posts and meta on aspects of specific eps, but if you're interested, by all means sign up here.

Other stuff...
My life is busy at the moment. I've been working as a long-term temp since September, but my contract is now (today) coming to an end, as my boss wants to get a permanent PA based in our Yorkshire offices. He did offer me the job if I was willing to relocate, but I didn't fancy moving up north. So I'm going to be jobhunting.
This isn't as stressful as it sounds, as I'm with a couple of temp agencies, and office admin work in London isn't exactly thin on the ground. So I'm taking a week's holiday (next week), and will hopefully be in another temp place in a couple of weeks. Last time, for example, I got interviewed and recruited for this job in two days. So I'm not worrying.
I am feeling a bit melancholy to be leaving this place, as it's been really nice working here – but then, I've always known I'm on a temp contract, so I didn't get completely attached. Eh. Change is good, I firmly believe.
---
So, hence why I've been a bit absent of late – this week, I've been training the new PA (which has been fun, actually – being a PA can be quite solitary), and most of my fannish energies have been going towards redial.
All, that is, except for the part of my brain that has been kidnapped by an SG-1 Does Labyrinth story. Which is all the fault of

Oh, and in further news, I'm going on a brief holiday, too – I can't say where, because that's a surprise for my bf, and he'll read this. But we're flying out tomorrow afternoon, and back on Monday. I'll be away from the internet for four days! Well, two full days, and two days when I might get a moment to log on... :) A good way to see how addicted I really am.
Anyhow, I've done everything that needs doing (job-wise), so this afternoon I'm going to be eating cakes and playing on the internet.

You have been busy! I hope the vacation is awesome (how are you keeping it a secret when you have to get him on a plane?) and the job hunting works well and doesn't drive you nuts.
Yay to Labyrinth. (I'm still trying to decide exactly how bad an idea it will be for me to do that ficathon. I keep wavering between "OMG NO MORE FICATHONS" and "but Memphis Belle would be awesome!"
I didn't mean to join reel_SG1, but I read the list (foolish of me), and got to Labyrinth, and just... I'd claimed it before I knew what was happening. It kidnapped my typing fingers.
I've not seen Memphis Belle (I know of it about as vaguely as I knew Gilligan's Island *g*), but I'm loving the idea of all these non-scifi crossover things. Not so excited by the idea of, say, The Mummy, or Indiana Jones - but I can't wait to read SG-1 Does Dirty Dancing. I saw a poster advertising the Dirty Dancing musical, this morning, and got some strange looks when I laughed. Hee.
I want to write this Labyrinth one and then go claim another. It's like some bizarre compulsion.
Ooh, evil ficathons abducting your fingers!
The Memphis Belle was a B-52 bomber, stationed out of England bombing Germany in WWII and the first bomber to complete it's 25 mission complement (the bombers had a habit of crashing/getting shot down with some frequency). The movie is the (somewhat fictionalized) account of their final mission and it's fantastic and teamy and...there's the pilot, Dennis, whose all stoic and not interested in the press circus and Danny, the small town boy who reads poetry and everybody loves, and Clay the Southern wannabe-lounge singer who sings "Oh, Danny Boy" to Danny before the mission and there's Val, who tells everyone he's a doctor but isn't and Rascal, the ball turret-gunner who's a total miniature fire cracker and...they're just all so AWESOME and so full of teamy-goodness and the mission is all *nail-biting* (and, of course, it's Danny who gets injured..)
Ah, Giligan's Island...hope we didn't scare you too badly :)
Hee. I was more scared when I saw The Fall Guy after who knows how many years, and remembered the words to the theme tune.
Memphis Belle sounds perfect for SG-1. There's something I really like about this sort of ficathon... I think it's the fact that I don't have to make up a plot. *g*
Memphis Belle is just a fantastic movie and it would work so well transferred over (Teamy goodness!) I do like not having to make up a plot, though I expect you get other challenges instead...
(I first saw Memphis Belle in high school when my US History teacher gave us extra credit for watching historical movies and writing a paper analyzing the accuracy of the movie - I think it started my love affair with the name Daniel/Danny/Dan which is entirely what I blame on my bad choice of first boyfriends)
(I still highly recommend the movie!)
Have fun on your mystery holiday!
If you get a chance, definitely go! My cousin designed parts of the set and when it played here we got to go :D
It was fantastic!!
I initially gathered that the idea was to watch an ep each Friday? ish? Or at least, one ep per week?
So, what's up with the "new ep every Tues. and Fri." schedule? That seems a little... heavy. Is it just for the launch, or is that really going to be the schedule?
(I admit -- I'm vastly looking forward to this community. It's great idea. I'd seen others bat it around, I talked up the idea to folks, and I'm pleased to see someone had it and ran with it and did all the set-up and organization. To be honest, I sort of wish it wasn't starting until Sept., but what the heck. I'm bummed that I am going to be without LJ access for the launch and the subsequent 3 weeks. :( But I was just about to post an alert in my LJ to folks in my flist, so I came back here looking for info, as I remembered you posting about it. Thus, my confusion.)
There's no regular get-together on AIM planned (at the moment). This one for CoTG is a one-off, for the launch. Although if it goes well, it may be repeated. So basically it's all on the comm, not on AIM.
And it's a pity you won't be around for the first while, 'cause you post such interesting meta... but you can always go back and add your 2c to past ep posts! Hopefully it'll be an ongoing... collection, sort of thing. Because everyone rewatches eps once in a while, so we'd like it to be a place where you can go look at people's thoughts about whichever ep.
