pepper: Pepperpot (Strawberry)
This is probably going to make no sense to most of you, but: I want to write Kerr Avon/Vala Mal Doran fic! It's all [personal profile] paian's fault, with her porn battle prompts. I don't think I can do the porn thing – but oh, wow, a universe with those two in it... The economy of the multiverse would never be the same, for a start. Also, there would probably be an apocalypse.

Which brings me on to thinking about Blake's Seven (What? It's Friday). The DVDs for the first season have absolutely the worst commentaries I've ever heard in my life. I haven't bought seasons 2-4, but if they get the same people in, I'm sure it'll be just as bad. It's like being stuck in a room with an elderly relative who used to be on the stage, darling, and some of her favourite cronies who she hasn't seen in absolutely forever, has it really been all that time since the little get-together at Siobhan's?, and did you hear what Stephen is doing now, that dreadful advert – oh, look, it's Geoffrey, he's the most wonderful man in the world, always brought me a cup of tea when he was on set, and remembered that I take two and a half sugars...

It's. Like. Torture.

However, shiny young(ish) B7 itself is lovely, with its dubious costumes and scenery-chewing acting and fabulous scripts. Here is my favourite Avon quote: "I have never understood why it should be necessary to become irrational in order to prove that you care. Or, indeed, why it should be necessary to prove it at all."

Okay, I've bored you enough about my old fandom, I shall now bore you about fruit.

7 random habits / facts about me (tagged by [profile] lady_draco2005):
  • I have this problem with eating oranges. They take me forever. I have to remove all the pith, and then the harder bits where the segments are joined to the middle bit, and then the outer skin of the segments, and... eventually I end up with a big pile of orange remnants, a lot of mess, and I might as well just have had juice, instead.
  • In fact, I'm picky when it comes to fruit, full stop. Bruises, I cut out. I often peel apples (the skin makes me feel queasy). Any suggestion that it's maybe overripe, or might possibly once have had a worm glance speculatively in its direction, and I just... I can't enjoy it, and will leave it until someone else eats it, or until it's completely inedible and I can throw it away. Pathetic, I know. And wasteful.
  • I thought I didn't particularly like strawberries until I went strawberry-picking and tried them fresh. Oh. My. God. I could live on those.
  • Raspberries are my favourites, though. We used to have them growing wild nearby, when I was a kid. I tried one, thinking it was going to be like a blackberry, but it wasn't, it was a million times nicer, and I've adored them ever since
  • I have a huge, professional-size blender / juicer, which I adore. It's all glass and chrome. Watermelon juice is fantastic, particularly chilled. Blended pear wasn't so nice – horrible grainy texture. Yeuch.
  • I love the look of cooked rhubarb – it's so pink! I cooked it for the first time last winter. Made a crumble. Was very nice, but the stuff really cooks down more than I'd expected – there was almost nothing left.
  • I bought a banana in the canteen this morning, and someone next to me on the bus was eating an orange. I think that's what triggered this fruit theme.

Okay, someone tell me to shut up, now.

Pancakes! Oh, man...I love pancakes, almost as much as french toast. I make mine really thin and splat-like myself...but I love me my butter.

Even raspberries, in my opinion, can't beat really wonderful fresh strawberries (Hood, if you can get them, and good luck with that--their growing season is already over here). But I discovered that there's nothing like berry-picking to spoil you from store-bought fruit. Yeck!

This entry is making me hungry.

Fruit in the UK has been so disappointing this year - I usually crave it, come summer, but this post is the first time I've really been thinking about it. Or, then again, it could be the fact that my local supermarket is invariably rubbish with their fruit - they freeze it and bash it about and let it sit around until it's practically mouldy, and finally try to sell it. Bah.

You're right - freshly-picked fruit (and veg) has totally spoiled me for shop-bought. Damn.

Mmmm, berries...

I have a friend who makes Finnish pancakes (she's from Finland, funnily enough). They're the usual pancake mix, but with a little sugar added, and then baked on a tray in the oven, as a kind of pancake slab. It's heavy, but really, really nice. Very comforting stuff - good for cold evenings. (I still prefer the flat sort that you throw, though.)

Ewwwww.....

And I love the flat sort you throw, too...though the Finnish pancakes sound interesting.

I also lurve crepes. Mmmm....crepes.

Mmmm... I had crepes Suzette when I was a kid and we went on holiday to France. They turned down all the lights and lit them, and the flames were blue, and I was so impressed.

I have a lot of pancake anecdotes, don't I? Hm.

*wants pancakes*
