It's still in the stage of being set up, so please step carefully around any exposed cables, wear your hard hat at all times, and don't lean against the paint. It'll be fully operational (fingers crossed) for discussion of the film on Tuesday 24th July, just in time for the 10th anniversary of the debut of Stargate: SG-1 (27th July). *gets misty and sentimental*
So dust off that old VHS of Stargate the movie, give it a watch, visit the comm, and join the squee!
And don't forget to bow down in praise to

Oh, before I forget - does anyone know how to chat to more than one person via IM? So that all the people involved can chat at the same time, in the same window, I mean - like a conference call (I can do the holding-two-separate-conversations-at-once thing, although it does make my head want to explode). Is it easy, or do you have to download a specific IM service? I've failed at teh internetz, and can't work it out.

Um. Anyway. It's the little button that says chat on it that looks like the IM button only it says chat and has several people on it.
But look around for something like conference, or chat, or group. You should never have to download a seperate one for it; if it has the ability, it'll be there.
Irritatingly, I had problems with AIM, which is why I usually use Trillian - it's an IM that connects to several different messengers, i.e. I can connect to my AIM username, and my old Yahoo one, at the same time. Or "available" on the Yahoo one and "away" on the AIM one. 'Tis very useful - like having a universal remote. I hate the clutter of lots of different messengers for different people.
*heads gloomily back to AIM*
Anyway, how muddled was that? My suggestion would be to create a chat room in either Trillian or Aim, remember the name, and then let people know which Messenger service its on and its name and as they say, if you build it, they will come.
I've never used or created chat rooms, so it's all shiny and new to me. Thank you!
*loves your announcement*
(to be fair, it was an idea I saw several people bounce around - I just took the bull by the horns and made the community)
I just realized....do you think LJ talk could be used for your evil plan?
I have NO clue. *g* I'm going to do some trials of various different messenger services this evening, if there are people around to log into chatrooms, etc, with me. *bats eyelashes at you*
And it occurred to me this morning that Friday 27th will be the absolute most perfect time to do a mutual watching of COTG. 10 years to the day.
(I came on when I got home but you were not...I have NO CLUE how large chatrooms work)
you know, I have spent the last week looking at calendars and thinking the 27th was a Thursday. My brain is through. But you are right - would be PERFECT!
What is this "RL" thing people keep talking about...? :)
I've used mIRC in the past for large group chats, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be very practical here.
RL... RL... it rings a bell...
*g*
I'm not very good at it, but IIRC, one of the menu options on AIM (and depending on what version you have depends on where the button is). But that's inviting buddies to join you in chat. Setting one up and giving an open invitation...that I'm not so sure of. Is there anything in the help menu?
Well, actually, I looked on the AIM homepage, and couldn't find anything about chatting with more than one person at a time - I didn't look on an AIM messenger thingy itself, but I shall tonight.
It's probably dead easy, and I just missed it completely - it was very late when I tried it, that's my excuse.
And then here's the specific "how to guide", I don't see why it wouldn't work for AIM as well as AOL: Member Created Chat Rooms (http://help.aol.com/aimhelp/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=http--helpchannelsaolcom-kjumpadparticleId185589&sliceId=&dialogID=92574835&stateId=1%200%2092646165). I'll do a test from my aim account (by the way, it's auroranovarum if you want to look for me)
How annoying.
I'm not an AOL member, though. Damn. Will research further.
On AIM I'm... actually, I can't remember my AIM name. I will find out when I get home. Heading home from work now, will be back online in two or three hours.
Thank you so much.
Something like that.
As far as chatting...I'm sure it's possible to set it up in Trillian, seeing as how I'm nearly sure I did a lot of chats in Trillian when I had it...but then again, haven't used it in about 8 million years, so...
Good luck?
You know, I bet I just didn't see the right button on Trillian, or something. Or perhaps it didn't work 'cause I wasn't actually talking to anyone - I was just looking at the, um... thingy. The bit that's not the message window. (Gawd, my technical vocabulary is non-existent.) Maybe I needed to have a messenger window actually open. I shall experiment this evening.
Blast, blast, blast. Further investigation needed.
At least I'm getting the gist now, though.
