Trail of Tears
Eh, not much to say about this one. Mac is injured again – you could probably use him for a colander about now – and has visions. They do that thing where they're vaguely fetishistic about Native American beliefs in a way that makes me slightly uncomfortable (but I have seen worse). The good guys win. I move quickly on.
Hind-Sight
This is a clips episode (really NOT the way to end a series), so not much happens that we've not seen before. Mac wears a horrendous T-shirt/suit combination that makes him look more than usually like RDA was gunning for a role in Miami Vice. Pete is in the hospital, about to go in for the operation to stop the deterioration of his eyesight due to glaucoma. Some mild peril is provided courtesy of his ex-wife, who is sending him flowers and slightly menacing anonymous notes.
As you do.
I mean, I always send menacing notes, whenever loved ones are in hospital. When my friend V was having an operation for an ingrown toenail, I sent her a series of notes that started out with the usual "I can never forget... or forgive. I'll be seeing you, although you may not see me. xoxoxox Your Watcher", and carried on right on up to "DIE BITCH DIE!", with a little drawing of me smothering her in her sleep.
Okay, I didn't really. Because that would be crazy. Pete's ex-wife, please take note.
I'm sorry to keep harping on about it, but it's bugging me. They didn't even explain why she signed it 'brainwashed no longer'! Not even a, "Haha, it was Pete's little nickname for me, when we were married, he's such a kidder!" or something. Yes, I get that she wanted to be anonymous because she wasn't sure Pete would want to see her - although he'd probably just be happy to know she cares - but why would she sign it that way? IT MAKES NO SENSE.
Ahem.
Good luck with your operation, Pete! I CAN NEVER FORGET... OR FORGIVE.

From 'makes no sense' to 'oh holy crap that makes SO MUCH SENSE': I have a fic rec: Reverb, by

- The details. Oh my gosh, the beautiful details about location – everything from the wild woods and mountains north of Seattle, to the Peruvian Andes, to London (I might have some personal bias about that bit *g*)... Some absolutely FTW scene-setting. The trek through the Andes is my favourite, I think.
- Sam and Lisa! ♥
- Mac and his granddaughters. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
- An explanation about Murdoc's seeming invincibility that ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE, whilst also fitting in with the style of the series (which, let's be honest, doesn't much go for the 'makes sense' style of explanation).
- Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeete. *sniffles*
- Nikki, filling Pete's shoes in her own style, and having her insecurities, but still totally rocking at it.
- Beth has just... got the thing that MacGyver does down perfectly. The way he kind of... he's just... he won't... he's so... *flails, fails to describe*... and then people love him and want to help him. You know. That thing.
- Plot. Plotty plotty plot, with things happening, and... yes, I don't want to give any of it away, but suffice to say, there is much to sink your teeth into.
- This cut scene (following on from chapter 11). *g*

I'm so glad you liked it!
someone slowly, painfully clawing their way back to some kind of equilibrium after horrendous trauma
And then there's the ironic bit where that turned out to be my actual life for the following year. Next time, I will be writing a novel in which people have happy fun times and nothing bad happens ever. *g*
Seriously, I thought it was amazing. I read some of the comments, and just wanted to say "And this! Yes, I loved this about it, too!" all the time. Especially about how you did the confusion of Jack and Kanan's mental voices at the beginning, how determined Jack is to be unreasonable dammit, and how Jack slowly finds where he begins and ends again, and Kanan slowly... gets Jack's sense of humour. *g* And the bits with the individual members of the team, underestimating Sam, but so proud of her, and how she's made her own team, the way Teal'c lets him rest, and is just gets it, and Daniel's arguments - and how Kanan reacts to Daniel, in kind of fear and disbelief... and the insight into the Tok'ra that Jack unwillingly has... and Janet, and Hammond, and Jacob...
...Okay, I'd better stop now. *g*
Seriously, I love hearing how different people react to a story and what elements resonate for people.
