The Wasteland
I am immediately disappointed by this episode missing an excellent opportunity to melt the Hideous Satin Jacket in toxic sludge. Tut-tut.
Oho, environmentalist!Mac, I see you've not brought your gas guzzler on this trip. Realised the hypocrisy, have we? Or has it just broken down for good?
Hee. Evil Industrialist chewing out his son, Scott, wanting him to smarten up and follow in the family business – I can't help but think of Doctor Evil and his son Scott.
...Oh, sorry, I zoned out. LJ was more interesting. I tune back in to find Mac is – for once! – actually MacGyvering something. And quite a something it is, too. Really, honestly, a powered paraglider? In, what, a few minutes? *giggles uncontrollably*
If it was likely that my children had just tried to kill me, my first impulse wouldn't be to rush toward them with open arms. Really.
OH MY GOD. Is Mac an eagle? Is that what just happened? Did Mac really just swoop in on his powered paraglider, pick up an entire grown man in his legs, and fly off with him? Did I really just see that? That was possibly THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING I HAVE EVER SEEN.
Are the writers on drugs? Am I? Can I be?
Ooh! A nice black jacket at the end! Mac, keep that one, it's lovely! Chuck the satin one and keep that one, I'm begging you!
Okay. There were two nice outfits – a black jumper (sweater) in the beginning, and the jacket at the end. I'm counting that as a win.

You know, apropos of nothing in that ep, it strikes me that I keep waiting for a story or character arc on MacGyver. I'm out of tune with How TV Used To Be. I've been spoiled by my X-Files, Buffy, Doctor Who - yes, even Stargate. I mentioned, when talking about Jericho Games, that Mac would be even more commitment-shy after that... but he won't, will he? He was commitment-shy – when it suited the story – in the beginning, and he's no worse or better now. *sigh* I miss my plot arcs.
Yes, I know there's one involving Pete coming up, but I tend to think that's due to real life, and not because the writers suddenly realised that plot arcs weren't just for soap operas.
Until next time, take care of yourselves, and each other.
