(There was a bit where Zito says something along the lines of "Evil will always win, because Good..." and I finished, "is dumb." Spaceballs has ruined me.)
Really, they should stick to what they're good at: Wealthy Evil is trying to do down Virtuous Poor, Mac meets child who gets him involved, overcomes prejudice of Virtuous Poor who think he's being an interfering busybody, does some science that proves stuff, gets caught by Wealthy Evil boss and his thugs, escapes, wins the day, reunites child with parent(s). Repeat ad nauseum. I like that plot. It's not too complicated. They just can't write complicated evil mastermind plots. I can't, either, and I've come to terms with it.
Still, Mac looks nice in his shirt and tie, even when staring vacantly into space, wondering what this series of numbers might signify: 4, 15, 3, 20, 15, 18. Did you read that and wonder if they correlated to letters of the alphabet? Congratulations, you're officially faster than Mac and the police. And if you then worked out the first three (D, O, C...), would you really need to puzzle out the rest, or would you be putting a security detail on the good doctor (if you hadn't already, because it's blindingly obvious that Zito is going after her)?
But anyway. Mac is hot, cf. today's

And then I watched 'Harry's Will', which is... um. Kind of insane, but in a good way. And James Doohan is in it (as a mechanic called Speedy who spends most of the episode asleep)! And Henry Winkler (yes, I know he's the exec producer, but still)! And I get the feeling that, if I watched more American TV, I'd recognise a lot more of these goofballs. Plus Mac gets to ice skate (man, he moves so well on skates) and drive a cool car... Was it someone's birthday? An anniversary? It sure seems like they just decided, "to hell with making sense, let's have fun!"
And James Doohan is in it!*
And after that, I finally got to watch 'MacGyver's Women', which I forced myself not to skip ahead and watch because I love me a wild west dream sequence episode. Mac in an Authentic Frontier MoustacheTM, building steampunk devices! So adorable.
Maria must be the woman who left due to fan protests about Mac being involved with a GURL EWWW. Stoopid fans. She had a bit of a weird beginning in 'The Wall', but she's sweet in this one, and very capable despite being lumbered with a Giant Purple Frock throughout most of it. But no, just as Mac realises he wants her to stay even if it means he has to talk about commitment ZOMG, she gets sent on assignment to Brazil and disappears from the show forever. Meh.
I love taciturn wild west Mac, who communicates mainly through significant eye-squints and actions. And apparently RDA has been working on that kiss-and-dip move for a while. *sigh* If A ever tried that on me, he'd probably drop me. Why isn't real life more like Hollywood?
ETA: The kiss'n'dip:

* I also watched some of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier this weekend. "S... T... A... N... D... Stand. New word. B... A... C... K... Back... stand back. Stand back!" I think my favourite thing about the whole movie, on rewatching, is that Spock has a special machine for making marshmallows. OMG, the future rocks.
