pepper: Pepperpot (Ellipsis)
You. Yes, you. You like words? Of course you do; you're on LiveJournal, after all.

Save The Words.

A website where you can adopt words that may otherwise sadly fall into disuse, and be dropped from the Oxford dictionary. Dropped! Imagine - words that are no longer real words. A fate akin to death. For words, that is.

I myself have adopted ficulnean. When, for example, I tell you that fig-tree trunks often bear large nodal tumors, where branches have been shed or removed, I am giving you some ficulnean information. Ficulnean: worthless information regarding fig-tree wood. Yes, there is a word for that. Aren't you glad to know it?

There are plenty more where that came from - words such as woundikins, artigrapher, dodrantal, xenization, and teterrimous (none of which are recognised by LJ's own spellchecker).

No, I don't know if there's a point to this website. Frankly, nor do I care. I just couldn't resist their little voices, crying out, "Me, me! Pick me!"

Hee - yes, there were a number of words that I thought could well be used in a Stargate context, for... one reason or another. :)

We should release them from their bonds and let them run free across our sunlit prose!

There is definitely fic out there that could use 'lubency'. And 'dodrantal'.

:)

(Also 'vargeous'.)

Okay, I can't find "dodrantal", though it sounds like something Jack might do after finally getting his memos. :-)

You can do a find - click on 'adopt-a-word', and type it into the find field.

(Dodrantal: of nine inches in length.)

labascate: to begin to fall or slip.

Sam labascated on the edge of the cliff.

"Nooooo!" Jack shouted.

Too late.

Splat.

Oh, I adore this web site! *is such a word geek* Someone should warn those SAT people...they'd be all over having people adopt words! Must get them adopted out! We'll have to rethink our test if they all become non-words! LOL

It's fun, isn't it? Their plaintive little voices are making me feel guilty, though. *g*

Heh - wonder what would happen if they became common again just after they'd been dropped from the dictionary...

Murklins! What a lovely word! I'm very tempted to adopt it, but I'm not sure I'd be a good parent for a word - I'd probably forget I had it and leave it in the supermarket :-(

Oh! That's gorgeous. I'm sure we could help you raise it, to locupletate the language.

You get an adoption certificate and everything...
