Boring whinge about work stuff

Meh. Work people.

I used to be in this big office all on my own. That was okay, but very lonely. I'm not much inclined to go wandering around the building in search of company, so there'd be days when I spoke maybe a half-dozen sentences all day. I don't mind it for some of the time, I'm a peace-and-quiet sort of person in general, but it was a bit soul-destroying after a while.

Then TPTB decided - perfectly validly - that this big office was wasting space, being all empty as it was. Fair enough: I could have done about four or five cartwheels from one end of the place to the other - if I did cartwheels - and maybe one and a half cartwheels across. Big amount of space to waste in Central London. So, a couple of weeks ago, they moved in about thirty people.

And now the photocopier is always jammed or empty of paper, the place smells of bleach (is it the aircon, or is someone actually washing in the damn stuff?), the toilets are, if not disgusting, certainly less gusting, the kitchen sink is full of unwashed mugs and teaspoons, there's never any milk in the fridge, and there's an ongoing struggle over the aircon which is only going to escalate.

Also, they seem perfectly nice - if a bit boring - but I'm just not part of their group. They've all been working together for however long, and were just moved in en masse from upstairs. I haven't got much work stuff in common with them, so there's little need to discuss that...  so I still spend most of my day not speaking to anyone. Except to say "Morning," and "Night." And "Have a nice weekend," on Fridays.

I miss having proper colleagues. I miss actually working with people - for someone so solitary by nature, I oddly prefer working with others (as long as they're not complete b*stards, of course). It's much more enjoyable and productive. I really miss my previous workplace - not the job, but the people. Again, I was in an office with other people, and again we hadn't got that much work stuff in common (I always seem to end up in jobs where I'm the only one doing whatever it is), but they were super cool people, and I loved talking to them. We talked all the time, and we laughed a lot. We talked the most amazing crap. It was wonderful.

I also miss several of my friends who live in different parts of the country, and who I never see. Miss them terribly. One of 'em turned thirty yesterday, but I only managed to speak to her ansaphone. :(

Bah.

I wish I had a little team, like SG-1. That'd be my ideal situation. People I could work closely with, but who I don't have to see all the time if I've got a project of my own that I need to work on. I'm going to have to look into getting such a job. Perhaps the course I'm applying for will aid that - at the moment, my CV is in a complete rut, so I need to do something to redirect it, otherwise I'll be stuck in Office Hell for the rest of my life.

Right. Yes. I'm going to stop procrastinating, and post that application today. Right now, in fact. Where's an envelope...

(/whinge)

edit: w00t! Ages ago - so long ago that I'd practically forgotten about it - I ordered some Stargate action figures. Black Ops Jack turned up in time for Christmas, but Sam and Black Ops Teal'c hadn't been released yet (I did order Daniel, too, but he wasn't in stock - will have to look on Ebay). And just now I had a call from my dad, saying the postman has left a collection card for something too big to fit through the letterbox...

*excited*

ugh. Sounds like someone needs to teach them how to clean up after themselves.

Poor thing. :( Hope the job application goes well!

Ah, course, not job - but hopefully leading to shiny new career in animation (!). Stranger things have happened. Or, if not a job (because I don't think there's a huge job market for animators), at least hopefully a different and more creative direction to my life. I scared but excited. Biting nails may be a possibility.
