Apparently Barry Norman is making and selling pickled onions.

What next? Is Leonard Maltin going to sell his own-recipe jam? Will Rotten Tomatoes start up a crafts page? Will Harry Knowles open up a lemonade stall?

I don't often feel the urge to research these random things*, but I had to discover if Barry Norman had a history of pickled onion selling. Apparently this is a new thing for him. Not the most obvious career path...

1) Film critic
2) Retirement
3) ???
4) Pickled onions and PROFIT!!!

I bet his pickled onions aren't as good as my family's, though. Ours ought to carry one of those warning labels with the hand and the droplet and the flesh being eaten away. Ours need to be sliced finely and eaten with large lumps of cheese, so that the lining of your throat doesn't corrode. I bet Barry Norman's pickled onions don't need precautionary measures.

My dad likes to tell the tale of the time he bought a jar of pickled onions. "They were labelled 'Extra Strong', but they tasted like they'd been pickled in water!" (I didn't say it was an interesting tale.) And either our recipe has got stronger over the years, or my tastebuds have weakened, because he also likes to tell of the time that me, my brother, and our two friends ate our way through an entire jar of the things. I bet we were popular in school the next day.

Oh, and [community profile] legomymalfoy has won the LJ Advisory Board election. But rest assured, I won't bring a jar of pickled onions to the bunker.

*Lies, lies...
