And I've redone the grammar icons. Because... I'm a nutcase. As always, feel free to help yourselves, just give credit.

Well, I nicked the 'rules' from Strunk & White...

Mwahahahah... there's one for the shippers!

I don't love you Laira because you don't use the proper case of pronoun. You bastard!

Feel the shipperlove... And and and of course, Sam can never truly love Joe because he doesn't know not to join independent clauses with a comma. *g*

Jack O'Neill is *so* a grammer Nazi, hoorah! My pet theory is that his mom was an English teacher. The way he corrects "whom" in 2010 just smacked of English teacher parenting, to me.

Geez, I hope this didn't stem from beta-ing my fic. I'm scared now.

Bwah-ha-ha! No, your grammar is pretty good, as far as I can tell - I've sprinkled on a few more commas, because I'm like that (but the rules on commas are pretty vague, as it is). And *smacks self* I will send it back to you today.

Quite frankly, I can't remember what half these things mean anyhow. Apposi-what? ;)

[identity profile] vickyocean.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Commas have aways confused me. Then they throw in wacky stuff like semi- colons. Total confusion. Though back in the day I could diagram the hell out of a sentence. Probably not so much these days.

Seriously, those icons are a riot. And I really, really like you default one with Jack walking through the yellow flowers. Why didn't I think of that?

Ah yes, the crotch shot... :D I was ever so pleased with that one. I may actually stop the constant changing of my default icon, look a little less indecisive.

I highly, *highly* recommend The Elements of Phyle - http://members.aol.com/kipler/grammar.html - it's an X-Files fanfic grammar site initially, but it goes on to be a general grammar guide - for the basics at least, and some more in-depth stuff. That's where I first learnt how to wrestle a semicolon into submission (who says you never learn anything from fanfic? *g*). Plus, it's really funny.

I swear, I've learnt more about grammar through reading / writing fanfic than I ever did at school.

And I'm off again. I'll shut up about grammar now.

Thanks. I'll check that out.

Actually, that was totally not the reason I like that icon. It's the dichotomy of the pretty flowers and the potential for destruction inherent the gun. With the bright flowers in the foreground drawing your attention to them, you don't immediately notice the gun. At first glance it's merely a guy walking in the field smelling the daisies as it were. Only on closer examination or intimate knowledge of the scene (or man) will you know otherwise. Also Paradise Lost is one of my favorite eps.

How did I manage to turn an icon into an Art History test essay question?

I have a dirty mind, then. *g*

But yes, speaking properly, I did like the... what was the word my Art teacher used to use all the time?... oh yes: juxtaposition. Col. O'Neill, looking drab and a bit bashed about in BDU's, with his gun... walking through the pretty flowers. And they managed to catch *such* pretty flowers, too - there were some more shots with the pollen and such floating in the air, but it didn't quite work for an icon - more's the pity, it looked very ethereal.

And I've (finally) emailed you back the story.
