Mm yy

1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

[livejournal.com profile] annienau08 gave me the letter 'f'…

1. Fifth Doctor: You never forget your first. He was MY Doctor, and there's no one quite like him. Yes, the celery thing was kind of silly, and the cricket costume was a bit daft, too – but he was Doctor to the core, hard as nails when you least expect it, and yet utterly tender-hearted. You would not believe how emotional I got over the meeting between the Fifth and Tenth Doctors. "You know what, Doctor? You were my Doctor." *sniffles*

2. Fran Katzenjammer: Okay, I know most of you have still not heard of her (I think that's a crime, btw), but all I can say is – she's like Bridget Jones, only funnier and more real. So many times I've watched her in Black Books, and recognised EXACTLY something she's said or done. (Justifying the shoes she's taking on holiday: "Supposing we're invited to a yacht party by drug dealers…!").

3. Frodo: I sort of love Frodo. Except… well… he's so… Okay, every now and then, I get a bit fed up of all his problems. He's like the friend you adore, but they just seem to have all these terrible, tragic things happen to them, and sometimes a tiny, sinful voice in your head whispers, "God, it's always happening to him, isn't it?" I know – blaming the victim is bad and wrong, and in real life I am completely opposed to it – but oh, Frodo, won't you please be little more selfish? Yeah, okay, you carry on your narrow shoulders the heavy burden of responsibility to ensure that Middle Earth doesn't fall under the rule of the Dark Lord – but would that really be so bad? Maybe Sauron just had some bad PR.

(I'm evil; I know. Never choose me to be the Ring Bearer. Srsly. I'd get about as far as the Barrow Downs, and go, "Screw this – I'm off back to the Prancing Pony for a nice honey ale and that sexy half-elven lapdancer.")

4. Faith: I have a sneaking love for Faith (although I do confuse her with Kennedy sometimes, too). I can sympathise with the sibling rivalry thing. And she is so irresponsibly fun-seeking (see above my issues with Frodo and responsibility). Okay, yeah, she's bad, and also kind of nuts sometimes – I don't say I'd like to hang out with her (well…). She fails, and falls – I like that in a character, especially when it's done with humour and awareness of how cool it is to be a hot chick with superpowers. I like how she ended in a weirdly secure place, relationship-wise, with someone who was kind of grown-up. I imagine that's going to be quite a learning curve for her. She also talks that magical, incomprehensible American/Whedon slang that always delights me (what does "five by five" mean?).

5. Jay Felger : I like losers, and I like Stargate's sometimes-unsubtle brand of humour. I can't seem to help it. I like the exasperation he brings out in everyone, and the fact that even his fellow scientists are embarrassed by him. And he created a virus that, when adapted, knocked out the entire Gate system. It's quite an achievement. He just... tickles me.

Now I must go make carrot cake and think about the letter M.

This is a pretty funny meme going around, but also really interesting to hear *why* everyone loves the characters they choose. We're all here for the same reason but what caused each of us to fall in love with these fictional characters, and thus be involved in fandom, is often not brought up. Maybe I'm weird but I like hearing it :)

Mmmm Carrot cake.

Mmm, cake... It is baking, and I return bringing letters. If you want one, that is... Have a T. *g*

Yeah, I'm enjoying this meme - it's fun just to read people talking about a character, you know? What they see in someone that is maybe a different slant to how you see them.

1) Awww.

2) Must check that out. (Also, if there are MULTIPLE copies of a book available, why is it that my hold cannot be renewed? Stupid library.)

3) I think I'll join you in the pub.

4) "that magical, incomprehensible American/Whedon slang that always delights me" *snerk* Well, to be honest, the characters in Whedon-ville are WAY wittier than your average American, but the slang is pretty comprehensible to me. Except I had no idea what five-by-five was, so I looked it up and found it had to do with radio transmissions, and the strength and clarity thereof. It means, "Gotcha." Faith suddenly makes more sense to me.

5) *loves*

(and yes, you can give me a letter. damn memes.)

*is still geeking out over slang*

Apparently the phrase is also used in SGA and SG-1 multiple times, by all sorts of characters. Awesome.

It is? I've not noticed! Heh.

2) Must check that out.

Woohoo! Yes. I mean, it's... well, ask Rigel - she loves Black Books as much as I do. I adore all three main characters equally, and for different reasons, but Fran just feels so recognisable.

(And that is a stupid rule for a library. Bah.)

Yay pub!

Heh - it took me a while to understand the Buffy language - I mean, I get the gist, usually, but that and some LA-type talk is just so very... creative, I think. I adored Clueless, for the same reason (and because it was fun, of course).

Yay! Have a *closes eyes and hits keyboard* an O.

Ha ha, I sorta feel the same about Frodo, poor little man! Also, if I were the ring bearer, I'd have just gotten Gandalf to summon the damn giant eagles at THE START, and fly over Mt. Doom and drop the ring in. Men! Sheesh.

Five-by-five is a US military radio phrase, meaning: hearing you loud and clear. I think Sam or Jack uses it once or twice.

Felger is ♥

Well, exactly! They have all these superpowered wizards and stuff - surely getting a tiny Hobbit with no adventure experience to walk the entire way across Middle Earth was not the best plan they could come up with? I mean, seriously. What were the chances it would succeed?

But I'm still wondering - five what by five what?

Yay Felger. :D

Do you want a letter? Have an R.

I found you a Buffy-slang link that address this exact phrase!

Ahhh. It all makes sense now! Ta. :)

1) Ah yes you ALWAYS remember your first. For me it was number Three. The cape, frilly shirts and BESSIE. He could be as hard as nails but also kind and gentle. I smiled and sniffled through Five's and Ten's meeting too. That for me was the best bit of Children In Need :) :)

If you want...give me a letter.

I don't know the first two, but I love your last three choices. Because I love Frodo - but would so be sitting next to you in the Prancing Pony. And I adored Faith, especially at the end when she came back and was pretty much the coolest person there.

And Jay...ah, Jay. K and I were talking about it once, and while Jonas is the Mary Sue we all wish we were? Jay is the Mary Sue we all really are. And I love him for it. (Plus, I kind of want to introduce his action figures to my velocipony.)
