Various and sundries

Work? Is tiring. Also, I can't really get on the Net now at work. Bah at them and their sensible policies. *frowns*

I luv [personal profile] holdouttrout at the moment (and always, of course :) ), 'cause she's done a literary couples quiz. I'm not as good at it as I hoped. Still working out my answers before posting. I think I've remembered Nancy Drew's boyfriend, though! Gawd, that takes me back.

[profile] annerbhp is challenging people to write Sam/Jack clichefic. And is writing some herself. I can't tell you how much this delights me. I. Can't. Wait. And I'm so surprised how few I've written. How have I not written AMTDI, stranded offworld, offworld marriages, babyfic, alternate realities, telepathy...?! Then again, I suspect the problem is that I have started fics using many of these cliches, and never actually finished them. Darn.

Discovered an interesting factoid about my dad, this weekend. His first girlfriend, back when he was a teenager (in the sixties), was the daughter of a two-star General at an American Air Force base near his village (in Oxfordshire). Heh. Funny. Okay, probably only funny to me, but still.

Gift Of The Gods - loved! I loved Daniel's flaky manner when beginning the recording, and I love how Big Finish don't just read a story, but make it a drama, and I adored MS's impersonations of various Stargate people, especially Hammond (which may have made me laugh out loud on the Tube). And I recognised the story - it's a different version one of the writer's fanfics, which she wrote as a script, and in which Sam had the role Daniel has in the CD. There's something very delicious about fanfic being turning into something more official. I was going to say "real" there, but it's not like fanfic isn't real.

Glad to hear you enjoyed GotG. I have listened to about four chapters so far, and I am really enjoying it--especially Shanks-as-Hammond. So hilarious. Course, I look like a looney grinning to myself whilst walking to work, but...it's worth it.

There's an interview at the end, too - he talks briefly about impersonating his fellow actors. The embarrassment factor is the only downside of the whole thing, really. *g*

Oh Oh! I forgot to mention that I finished it in my last post! I actually had to just listen to the whole rest of it--couldn't stop once I got home. And the additional track with his interview was awesome. I'd LOVE to know how Don. S Davis and CJ reacted.

I thought his Jack was eerily good. And the story was really fun (I'm thinkin I've read the other story, but I'm not sure...)

Yay! Glad you liked. Yeah, his Jack was very good - I guess not surprisingly, he is quite imitable. I bet CJ had a good laugh over the whole thing. :) I hope he does a recording too, soon.

The story has gone from her website - I don't blame her - I'd have done the same, personally - but I've got a copy of it saved to my computer if you're curious. It's much shippier.

I'd love to snurch the story from you. And I can totally understand why she took it down--there's probably lots of reasons. :-)

I enjoyed it too! Well, except for my nitpicking on the dog tag issue, but otherwise I really enjoyed Daniel-on-CD.

MS as Hammond was amusing, yes. It's a very enjoyable format, however.

The dog tags thing is carried over from the original version, where it's Sam in that role - it made sense there, but yeah, it doesn't really work for Daniel. Fortunately for me, it didn't occur to me that it was wrong, so I wasn't annoyed. :D

I do like how MS read it all - I get the impression he liked doing the reading aloud, playing all the different parts thing.

Nancy Drew! I loved her!

I took the quiz, but I only got so many. Gah! So hard. I'm terrible at character names. I was going, um, I think x is in this book and so...LOL

It'll be interesting to see the results.

Now I'm curious about this dog tag thing and the book and AWWW. It's sad I'm tempted to get that audiobook just for MS's reading it. Such a Daniel fangirl.

Nancy Drew! I loved her!

Me too! Although I don't think I'd try to re-read any of the books. It was like the literary equivalent of Scooby Doo - "I would have succeeded if it wasn't for you pesky kids!" :)

I hope MS persuades the others to get involved in the audio drama thing. It'd be very funny to listen to Chris Judge doing impressions of everyone else. Heh.
