Stuff

Grah. NaNo not going well. But I always find it very difficult to write on the weekends - I can't seem to concentrate - so hopefully I'll make it up next week.

Of course, that will be made difficult by the fact that my laptop is going in to be repaired. Whoopee. I've still got my clunky old desktop, but it's in the other room, and it's coooooooold...! Fingers crossed they get it fixed and back to me soon. I don't think I can live long without it.

And, random thought, after listening to a few interviews on Gateworld - I've noticed several of the actors interviewed mentioning how nice it was to have regular work with Stargate (David Nykl mentions it, and I think David Hewlett, Carmen Argenziano, maybe some others), and it just... struck me. I know there's a pool of professional actors in Vancouver, and it's kind of a serious job there, so to have a regular part must be quite a significant thing in their lives (and I've known a few actors, and they all do talk about the instability of the job) - but I had the sudden vision of a tyrannical producer, or whoever, telling all the lesser characters, "Be grateful you have regular work! Don't get too cocky - you can be killed off, you know. It'll be a touching death scene. Think of all the starving actors out there - do you want to go back to doing DINNER THEATRE? BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!"

:-)

Okay, my brain is set to random shuffle, I'd better go to bed.

ETA: Oh yes, almost forgot - amongst all the other wonderfulness that is [personal profile] surreallis's Pornucopia, there is, OMG,  Jack/Sara apocafic, written by [profile] abyssinia4077. Let me reiterate: JACK/SARA APOCAFIC. *wants a whole long fic of this*

Hee - yes, after hearing it a few times, it starts to sound scripted. "Go on - tell the press how much you love Stargate! Remember JANET."

*g*

Eh... I forgot about Tori Higginson case....

I'll be the first to do the chicken-dance if Tori somehow got a recurring act on NCIS... *hopes*

LOL!! Just imagine the brainwashing phase where the tyrannical producer programs the poor reoccurring characters with exactly what to say in an interview. 'It's like family. I'm so happy to have regular work.' (said in Stepford voice) ;-)

Yes! The "it's like a big family" thing crops up a lot, too. *g*

We've uncovered their plot!!!

Good luck with the writing!

Yeah on the actors. I was really curious about that at Dragon*Con, looking at how much they charge for autographs and stuff because I know that it can be such inconsistent work and they have big fees for agents and all but then you hear how much they can make per episode and....it sounds like a lot, and so I really found myself wondering.
But yeah.

Glad you liked it! I want more too. Really a lot.

Yeah, the autographs thing is... well, I find it a bit weird and uncomfortable, paying someone for their signature, so I wouldn't do it. But they do seem to charge a fair whack, and you have to wonder how much of that is just because they can.

On the other hand, I can sort of see the actors' point of view on that - they're doing the cons even after the show is over, or after their part has ended (Teryl, for e.g.), and I guess getting an ongoing paycheque is part of the benefit of being in a fandom behemoth like Stargate.

I want to write Jack/Sara much, much more than I want to write my NaNo fic. Dammit! ;)

Exactly. And I know for some actors (and really, most of the SG actors are out of regular work at the moment) cons can be how they support their families and I don't know how much of that money for autographs goes to them versus agents and con companies and stuff. Still.
(and then the judgmental part of me says "well, you should have saved money when you did have a regular gig and you're still making more at this con than I do in a year with all those autographs")

So. Really, I have no idea. I know at D*Con I just couldn't picture paying someone that much money for them to sign something - but then I realized that if Amanda Tapping were there I'd be first in line - but more just to meet her.

You should write a NaNo novel about Jack and Sara OMG!

Heehee. Well, seeing as I'm writing Jack/Sara instead of NaNo at the moment, I might have to find a way to sneak them in there.

Thinking about it some more, I wonder if it's done with more subtle evilness (I'm picturing Baal in the producer role, now): "Isn't it nice to have a regular paycheque? We're all family here at Stargate. Mi casa, su casa. You wouldn't do anything to hurt your family, now would you?" *g*

You're going great guns with the NaNo, by the way - go you!

I almost spit out my yoghourt (spelling intended) as "paycheque." Because I could *hear* Ba'al saying it with his accent.

Yes--I owe all my NaNo success to 1) nanosprinting with Annerb, which is like, the best idea ever, 2) staying home all weekend because I was sick, 3) Successfully getting my internal editor off my back because I promised him a crack at 4) porn for the pornucopia if he'd just shut up for a few hours.

The porn seems to be a great motivator. ;-)
