You know what? I'm blaming my keyboards. THAT'S why my apocafic has died a death. My keyboards - both at home and at work.

Stay with me on this.

See, I find the smallest things make it easier or harder for me to write. Cutting my nails, that's another one - whenever I cut my nails, I find myself suddenly typing a lot more. If I have long nails, I type less. I'm like some kind of reverse Sampson, only with nails, and writing fanfic rather than pulling down temples. Um. And it's odd, because I don't notice my nails getting in the way or anything, when they're long - but when they're short, typing is suddenly that much more tappytappytappythisiseasyandIcanhitallthekeyswithoutahiccup...

So, my inability to write. It's not the weather - because it's not that hot, neither is it that cold. It's just... meh. It's like un-weather (now the rains have stopped trying to drown half the country).  It's not lack of time, now I've posted the CotG thing (wow, that went well!), and done the AIM thing, and had the holiday, and come back to work (which is keeping me busy and productive, but not in a stressful way - rather, it's pretty joyful to feel useful at work, for once). It's not other stresses - finances okay, check; (mostly) good relationship, check; keeping active, check; eating sensibly, check; getting enough sleep, check... It's not the lack of inspiration, either - I keep thinking of bits and twists and lines and changes and stuff that needs to get the hell out of my head and onto a page.

So, why can't I write this damn fic, for the rapidly-looming deadline (Aug 12-18 OMG)? Clearly it's the keyboards. On the work one, I have to press just that slight bit harder than I find natural, otherwise some of the keys stick. It's fine for work - meaning there's no excuse to requisition a new one. The one at home is... it's too.. it's... grah.

Dammit, [profile] surrealphantastis going to end up with a piece of my soul in a jar on her desk, I just know it. (Is anyone else picturing that like the dreams in jars in the BFG, or is it just me?)

Oh she is SO getting my soul. No chance I'm finishing this thang in time...!

*commiserates*

Well, at least it's Jenn. I sort of trust she'll do something interesting with them. :)

BFG! BFG!

I promise the bit of my soul will be happy to keep your soul-bit company.

(I love your excuse btw)

It seems like my bit of soul is going to have a lot of company. Hee. Jenn can keep them in a line of jars on a shelf. Oh, I want to go read the BFG again.

"Excuse"? It's not an "excuse"! It's a reason! A perfectly good reason for why I can't write, and not at all a feeble, procrastinating get-out...

Okay, yeah, it's an excuse. *g*

*imagines all our soul bits gallivanting together writing comment!fic*

Me too! Haven't read it in forever and it's so good :)

Oh, right, I apologize for mistaking your reason for an excuse. Very bad of me.

It's an easy mistake to make. Whilst it may LOOK like I'm trying to find any old excuse for a simple inability to sit down and get my story the hell together, it's actually a valid REASON that is actively PREVENTING me from doing something I would otherwise obviously be completely on top of. Because my record for completing ficathon fics weeks in advance of the deadline has previously been so perfect.

Ooh, look, a flying pig.

I also want to re-read George's Marvellous Medicine. They read that to me in school - I wonder if they still do that, or if it's been banned yet. *loves Roald Dahl*

[identity profile] abyssinia4077.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, right. Good point. We are ALL so responsible about deadlines and ficathons. No whinging at all from any of us.

*lures flying pig with apple*

Roald Dahl is awesome! My fifth grade teacher read us the BFG :) He seems to really understand what kids like - and that kids don't exactly need stories to be tame and watered down.

[identity profile] pepper-field.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. His stories are much more hardcore - and much more memorable. Willy Wonka is an unfriendly sonovabitch. George tries to poison his grandmother. The Twits glue birds to trees.... Not so worried about setting a good example, methinks.

*throws rocks to ward off flying pig* Jeez, pigeons are bad enough...

wonder if she shakes the Soul Jars when she's bored?

Do souls light up like fireflies?

Does she give them Soul Food?

ok, I'll stop now...

:D

I picture them as snippets of floaty, jellyfish-like things (only less icky), that change colour. Sort of like... tutti-fruity jellyfish. Not so much with the lighting up. But that's just me.

Yeah...um...good luck with that.

o.O

I think I need it... thanks... :)

Join the freakin' club. I have way to many due at the moment. They're all in my head and on various post-it notes, napkins, and scraps of paper, but can you get me to sit down for any length of time on any of my computers to put it all together?

No, because that would be the responsible thing.

You blame your keyboards, I'm blaming my sometimes neighbors from Virginia. They're here vacationing for two weeks and are just so excited about being back they keep having these gatherings. With wine. Things are not looking good for on time delivery of fic.

BTW, that little monkey icon is kinda creepy.

[identity profile] pepper-field.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, I love my little monkey icon. It's a baby siamang, and it's cuddling a teddybear. It was orphaned, I think, or rejected by its mother - I forget what, exactly. It was on some series about a zoo in Australia, and I got terribly worried about it, because I missed the episode that said whether it survived. Also, it has Daniel's eyebrows. :D

Curse summer, with its fun-things-to-do-that-are-more-tempting-than-sitting-at-a-keyboard!!! *shakes fist*

[identity profile] vickyocean.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Gah! It does have Daniel's eyebrows (which I've always found disturbing). It also looks like it's holding it's breath.

I'm taking a 'mental health day' tomorrow. Hopefully I can get my two fics with the closest deadlines mostly done.

Unless the pool has been reopened...

[identity profile] pepper-field.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*posts Daniel eyebrow icon for comparison*

Ooh... I want to go swimming. I wish there was somewhere decent around here, but the nearest place to me was exposed in the papers as having some of the least-clean water in London. That was a couple of years ago, and they may well have cleaned up their act since then, but still - ewww. Maybe I'll go ice skating, instead...

Good luck on getting fic done!

[identity profile] kalquessa.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm like some kind of reverse Sampson, only with nails, and writing fanfic rather than pulling down temples. Um.

*laughs* I'm this way, too. And for reasons that defy analysis, having long nails makes me stop capitalizing my personal pronoun I's. (Should there be an apostrophe there? I can't decide. It looks wrong both ways. Oh well.) Maybe having long nails affects my self esteem, or something.

And I agree: it must be the keyboards, curse them!
ext_3314: Woman writing (Default)

[identity profile] pepper-field.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one, I guess. Sucks for us both. Why must these things get in the way of the creative process?

Procrastinating? Me?

I went over that particular question with 70's vs. 70s, and decided that if it was wrong to use that apostrophe, I didn't wanna be right.

[identity profile] kalquessa.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think technically both cases call for no apostrophe, but...it looks so weird and doesn't scan well at all. So phooey.

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the gnargles. They flit around and suck our writing energy. I'm already deliberating over which exact bit of my soul Jenn's gonna get. Maybe the bit in my left baby toe.

(I think this icon is going to fade out from overuse soon)
ext_3314: Woman writing (Default)

[identity profile] pepper-field.livejournal.com 2007-08-02 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Gnargles! *squees* Do they look at all like this?
<-----

Jenn can have the bit of soul that hangs around my pancreas.
