Back from Barcelona. And yes, I shall picspam you all.
Because I'm a bit too tired to write proper words about the place, other than I would like to move there, please, and live in a top-floor apartment overlooking the Gothic Quarter...

...taking my siesta in the heat of the day, and going out in the late evening to have tapas and sangria and take a stroll by the seafront...

...and on weekends I would go visit some of Gaudi's works, including the Sagrada Familia...

I'd be quite happy with that.

Feel free to post some more pics. ;)

Heh - it seems like everyone who's been there is in love with the place. It just has that ineffable It.

I may well post more pics, thank you! Although I didn't take as many as I'd have liked - time and memory stick constraints, sigh.

Great photos Pepper. Looks like a great holiday :).

That first picture is frankly divine. The lighting is amazing...

Isn't it, though. The old buildings, and the bright sunlight... I was walking past that street, and glanced that way, and it was just so lovely. I walked down there, and there was a tiny square, with sunlight and a small fountain and a cafe, and one person.

*wants to be back there right now*

:) Okay, okay, mom. Sheesh.

I'd like to see other parts of Spain sometime - I hear Madrid is amazing. I've only been to Barcelona, and obviously I'm enamoured of the place - there's nowhere like it, because of all the Gaudi architecture, which is... well, I'm tempted to go on about it at length in another post, just for the hell of it.

Very cool.

*adds to list of places I need to go*

The Sagrada Familia has always disturbed me in a way. I really like Art Nouveau in art and architecture for the most part, but there just seems to be so much stuff on every surface of the Sagrada that it looks like giant decaying stalagmites to me. I'll be curious about what it will look like once it's completed and if my opinion will change

"Giant decaying stalagmites" is a perfect description. Gaudi designed it by hanging weights on lots of loops of string, drawing the result, and then turning it upside-down. It's a mad, genius way of designing a building - it looks like it's about to fall down, but it's actually incredibly sturdy, because it's working with gravity. Bloody scary to climb, though.

God knows if they'll finish it in our lifetimes, though - building work has been going on for a hundred years or so. Cathedrals take time, I guess.

I'm so jealous. So very, very jealous. I never got to Barcelona while I was in Spain, and it's something I'm going to do the next time I go (and I am going back).

Lovely!

It's well worth a visit - Barcelona is something else. I don't know how it compares to other bits of Spain (I really want to go elsewhere in Spain, too, having only ever been to Barcelona), but I've heard other people say how much they love the place. I want to go spend a few months there, at least. Don't know if I'll ever manage that, but I would really love to.

:) I'm glad it's not just boring picspam - I know photos of other people's holidays aren't necessarily the most interesting thing, but I thought you all might be interested in these. It's impossible to take a bad photo of Barcelona.

Well, unless you fall over and it's all blurry. :)

*mouth drop*

Wow...you lucky thing!

How...stunning...is that cathedral *stares in envy*

And the cathedral is even more stunning in person. It's hard to convey, even in pictures, quite how bizarre and organic a building that is.

And yeah, I love that I'm near enough all this stuff that it's pretty easy to visit. I am lucky. :)
