Morning, all. I've got my [profile] remixreduxassignment. I'm feeling a little like I might want to put threatening comments in [personal profile] nandamai's lj. She was too darn persuasive about joining in. Okay, and yes, maybe I was a little too willing to be persuaded. ;)

Actually, it's not that bad. The person I've been assigned is a good writer (and not one I'd read before, so that's nice for me). It's just... her Stargate fics are mainly relationship pieces for Jack/Daniel. I have no big objection to them together, but I've never written it, and... ack. I think the problem I'm having here is that she writes the pairing in a similar way to how I write Sam/Jack: it's the happy ending - the logical conclusion, once they're finally free to chose. It'd be against the spirit of her fics if I wrote Jack/Daniel only because Sam is otherwise unavailable, or there's some other extreme situation like the world ending or all their friends have died or some such. She has one AU fic that's not J/D (or any main character pairing, in fact), but that would be rather chicken of me... Argh... I knew this would happen.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it's a fun challenge. Hmm... How to write Jack/Daniel, whilst keeping them in character, the way I see their characters. Preferably without turning Daniel into a pseudo-Sam. A challenge, yes...

Oh, and apparently all human life on Earth might be destroyed by Apophis in 2036. That's taking fandom to an extreme, I feel.

edit: There are two authors on this particular website. I just realised I was reading the wrong one.

Eep! Well, okay, I *think* that you can remix a pairing fic as a friendship fic too! So unless they're all completely romantically centered, maybe you could back off of that and just focus on the friendship between Jack and Daniel?

Well, there's the sex fic, and there's the one with Jack and Daniel and their new pet dog... *g* I'm going to look at how far I can stretch the rules... and then probably go see if I can manage J/D anyhow. I'm broadminded.

I think this person's main fandom is Harry Potter, but I really can't drum up interest in that. Just not my cup of tea.

Yikes. I guess you couldn't specify which pairings you'd write and which you wouldn't? I was so going to join this thing, but time got away from me so I never did.

Yeah, you'll just have to find a state of mind where Jack and Daniel are gay and in love, and Sam is happy with someone else. If you start thinking that Sam will be sad and alone you'll be in big trouble.

There are around 400 participants and lord knows how many fandoms, so no, she doesn't match by pairing, just by fandom. You pays your money and you takes your chances. :)

Go with the fun challenge part. :) (And don't kill me!) (Though I do feel guilty.)

You can remix a story without making the pairing the main focus of the story. Pick one part of it and expand, or something. Then there's always the dog-POV option ... Um. The dog isn't a beagle, is it? There aren't a hundred small children running around, right? *worries*

Seriously, though, if you need help working the J/Dness, email me.

Aw, bless you, thanks. And don't feel guilty - I knew what I was putting myself in for, really (I did read the stuff about no matches by pairing - and I don't blame 'em, it looks like a helluva lot of work as it is). I'm just making a fuss. *g*

No, not a beagle, and no small children. I think I would have killed myself if I'd been given that one. Or done a parody. Which would probably have got me lynched by the writer in question.

But after all that, I realised I was looking at the wrong author, anyhow (they share a website). I may end up doing an X-Men fic, instead - we've got common ground there. The second person had some SG-1 stuff, but it was mostly jokey drabbles, which I didn't feel up to doing anything with.

It's what I do. It's a gift. ;)

No, not a beagle, and no small children. I think I would have killed myself if I'd been given that one.

If you'd gotten the beagles, *I* might have killed myself. (Though in reality I doubt the beagles would ever attempt the remix.)

*g* They're sensitive, delicate beagles, huh? I got that impression from the snippet posted in the comments on your lj the other week.

(There was one line I totally agreed with, though: '"This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of in my entire life," Jack commented...' YES. YES IT IS.)
