pepper: Pepperpot (Tired and headachy)

Note to self: when having an early night because it's work tomorrow, it is then important to not stay awake reading until past 5am. Srsly. That's just stupid. Damn you, Elizabeth Moon, and your fascinating world-building. I now know more about fictitious spaceship technology than I ever thought I'd find interesting.

So... tired... and... undeserving... of... sympathy...

We went out for pizza on Saturday, and had a confusing old time with a voucher.

A: "Oh, just before you ring the bill up, we have this leaflet that says 'Present this for one main meal free when you buy a main and a side'. So, here you go."

Waiter: "Yes?"

A: "Yes. So, that's okay, right? We checked with the waitress before we ordered."

Waiter: "You have a voucher?"

A: "Yes. This."

Waiter: "Yes?"

A: "...Yes."

Waiter: "You have a voucher?"

A: "Yes. Here. This. This is the voucher. This."

Waiter: *takes it* "This?"

A: "Yes."

Ah, there's nothing like having a conversation where both sides just say "yes" at one another for ages. Still, lovely pizza, lovely mozzarella salad, lovely semifreddo and espresso, and they were okay with the voucher/leaflet in the end. And it was in a castle. Sort of a castle. The closest Oxford has to a castle.

Hahaha!
This reminds me of our own recent restaurant issue- Last Saturday we decided to try out a Chinese fusion place nearby we've never been. After arriving and putting our name on the list, the 20 min wait they told us it would be stretched out to 45, and we finally left. We noticed they were really only seating people with reservations. So, this Saturday, I called ahead and told the woman that answered we'd like to make a reservation. She said, "We already have a list."

"OK, can we put our name on the waiting list?"

Instead of answering my question, she asks, "What time can you come?" (At this point, I feel like I'm in some kind of strange negotiation?!)

"7 PM, a table for 2."

"You give me your name, come here at 7, and maybe only wait 10 minutes."

Um. I'm pretty sure the restaurant doesn't understand the concept of reservations!?!

(PS- I was a very good meal though!)

Hah! Sounds more like a lottery than a reservation. Still, yum. Sometimes worth waiting for these things. I much prefer being in restaurants at off-peak times, if I can. It's nice not to feel like the waiter wants you to go so he can set the covers for the next lot of diners. Meh.

Elizabeth Moon's Serrano books? Because I do love them (because hey, animals in space!)

Although... 5am?!

Serrano books, yes! Horses and spaceships - I'm learning more than I expected about both. Heh.

If I pick up a book when I go to bed, I've always had a bad habit of reading until... well, until my alarm goes off. I've tried to break myself of it, but every now and then I fall back into old ways. I'd do it all the time, if only I didn't have to work for a living. :)

Girls on ponies kick ass in space - it's like the bizarrest combination of things I like, but it really works.

And ouch! How do you function the next day!

What is this "function" of which you speak?

Ouch! I need sleep way more than that, although I admit to late nights sometimes, too. :-)

Oh, I need sleep - I'm just bad (very, very, very bad) at putting down books, once I've started them. I had a hell of a day, today. D'oh. :)

*hands you pillow*
*takes away book*

Okay, your description of the food is making me drool but WTF crazy waiter guy?

Yeah, I'm just no good at that whole self-discipline thing. Just five more minutes... Just until the end of this chapter... Just until this bit is resolved... Well, it's already late, so I might as well read a bit more because I'll be tired tomorrow anyway... Damn, it's 5am!

He was... easily confused. I confused him earlier, too, when ordering dessert. He looked so befuddled. Bless. :)

Oh, God. I'm exactly the same way when it comes to reading. I've reached the point where I don't start reading anything fic related after 8pm and don't read books until the weekend. Otherwise it just messes me up for a couple of days. (Man, the headache I got reading the last Harry Potter book start to finish in eight hours was brutal.)

Also? Your waiter was a bit...dim, wasn't he? At least you got the discount in the end, though.

Yes, exactly - I have to be strict with myself like that, too. I love reading books that way, but it doesn't fit in with, you know, work, life, and my body's need for a sensible amount of sleep. :) It's worst when I have several books in a series. Gods, the Angelique series nearly killed me.

Yeah, he wasn't the brightest match in the box... :)

Yes?

Heh...A should've just started saying other, random things just to see if the waiter would agree with him. *g* That could've been fun.
