Urrrrgh. Stupid female reproductive system.

Cliche meme, snurched from [livejournal.com profile] aelfgyfu_mead, because it looked rather fun.

Bold the clichés you have written, and italicise those you've considered writing.

Genderswap: No.

Bodyswap: Although more in an X-men, Rogue-sucks-up-someone's-brain-and-it-takes-over-for-a-while sort of way.

Drunk!fic: Hah! I was going to confidently say no, but then I remembered an X-Men fic that had it. Wolverine had to keep drinking and drinking in order to stay drunk (his healing powers neutralise alcohol, don'tchaknow).

Huddling together for warmth: Um... not that I recall. Surprising, given one of Stargate's first shippy (if you read it that way) moments.

Undercover in a gay bar: No.

Pretending to be married: I probably started writing versions of this a thousand times (particularly when I was into X-Files), but I don't think I've ever finished one.

Secretly a virgin: Eesh. So very NO.

Amnesia: I started an X-Men one where Rogue had amnesia, but never finished it. I've written canon amnesia when writing Wolverine, but I don't think that counts. I'm not wildly fond of this cliché – it seems like, when someone gets hit over the head in fiction, nine times out of ten they get amnesia.

Cross-dressing: Well, I've put Jack, Daniel and Teal'c in miniskirts and feathers, in a brief ficlet. Sam nearly broke a rib laughing.

Forced to share a bed: I vaguely remember writing a beginning, but I don't think it ever went anywhere. I'm fond of this cliché.

Aliens make them do it: *stays quiet*

Wingfic: I thought that was a Supernatural thing? I don't know. If it's what I think it is – i.e. a character grows wings – then I've briefly written Sam (Carter) and Teal'c doing just that.

Mpreg: Hee. No.

Mistakenly assumed to be gay: Yes. D'oh! For Redial's celebration of reaching 200 watchers.

Let's play truth or dare: Yes, but I think I cut it from the final story. It was kinda boring – I couldn't think up any decent dares.

Mary Sue fic: Oh how I have written this. Not recently, though.

Aphrodisiacs: *glances up at AMTDI*

Curtainfic: …Huh?

Hurt/Comfort: Such a sweeping cliché, turns up almost everywhere.

Apocalypse fic: But I still haven't finished my [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kreefic!!!

Someone has a baby: Ohhh yes.

Kidfic: I can't seem to stop myself from writing kidfic. For every fandom. Most variations (I've done 'characters as kids' and 'characters with kids', but I don't think I've done 'characters turn into kids'). I don't know why. Kids scare me.

Telepathic soulbonding: But it was on purpose as a cliché fic challenge! I never finished it.

Werewolves mate for life: If I can count Wolverines, then yes. :)

Evil Twin: Hee. No, sadly.

Talking to a Shrink: This is a cliché? No. Oh, wait... well, probably McKenzie has turned up in a fic of mine. I can't quite remember. I'm sure he's been threatened.

Hero Wrongfully Accused: Not that I recall.

Character Tortured to Secure Other Character's Cooperation: No. But I like this cliché. It's very DRAMATIC. Which I think is basically the point in using clichés: they're tropes generally because they're good storylines.

ETA: Argh! When arranging a meeting for 15 managers, it's considered only polite to inform the admin staff who're going to have to set it up! Preferably BEFORE people start arriving! *headdesk* "Dear [colleague], I feel like death, do you mind if I go home?" would have been okay, but "Dear [boss], I know my colleague isn't in and you have a meeting for 15 people, and I know it'd leave you without any admin staff, but I feel like death, do you mind if I go home?" just isn't possible.

*stiffens uppper lip and carries on*

"Secretly a virgin: Eesh. So very NO."

ROFL! I remember reading a Jack-is-a-virgin fic and just staring at the screen in disbelief...and all those Sam-is-a-virgin fics... gah! why do people do it? I just don't get it!

I tend to assume, rightly or wrongly, that the writers are virgins, and at the point in their lives where they feel like they're NEVER EVER going to lose it OMG. Whether it's true or not I don't know - but: cliche writers, that's what I'm thinking! :D

Curtain fic are domestic, slice-of-life type stories. Moving in together and picking out curtains, etc.

A million years ago I read a 'secretly a virgin' fic that sort of worked. Shepperd was the secret virgin and it fit in with his serious emotional reticence (this was before his ex-wife appeared in the show). The back story in the fic was that he had early on gotten into the habit of shutting people out and had reached a point were he couldn't really let himself get close to someone. It was still improbable but it had interesting things to say about the character.

Ahhhh. Oh, I have heard of that. Well, then, I guess I might have written that sort of thing. Can't remember. (Me doing this meme = useless because I can't remember half the things I've written.)

I was wondering if anyone out there had ever done it right - anything is possible. But in general, the extreme handwaving just makes the basic concept ludicrous (finding ways to explain away Sara and Charlie, for example).

I love curtain fic because I secretly fancy myself a crime fighter/world saver and reading about actual crime fighters or world savers pick out curtains feeds my delusion that they're just like me (I bought curtains last week! I could totally save the world). :)

Heh! I love them, too - my excuse is that I can't truly love characters who are perfect all the time. I want them to burn toast and stub their toe on the coffee table.

[identity profile] supplyship.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! That's what curtain fic! Makes sense. And I love those domestic-type stories.

Thanks for clearing it up!

There is wingfic in SGA, too. helpfully links (http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/73660.html). That's the first part (of three), and it's McKay/Shep. I read lots of this author's McKay/Shep before I'd seen a lot of Atlantis.

I obviously need to do this meme. Like now.

Oh, I see - cool. Then I have written wingfic. I'd no idea it was a trope.

Hee - yes, you must do this meme. *g*

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
BWhahah. I totally stole this list for Day of Indulgence. So many cliches left to write!

Hee! Yes, I was thinking, well, I've done so many of them, that it wouldn't be all that hard to finish off the list... :D

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Yes. I like the way your brain works, as usual.

I... want a link to Jack, Daniel and Teal'c in miniskirts and feathers. Pretty please? Because that's... kinda scary, really. :-)

Hee - I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed writing those - and getting other people to write them for me, too. I must relaunch that sometime.

Werewolves mate for life: If I can count Wolverines, then yes. :)
There's more than one Wolverine?

I think I have never seen a fic where a character is secretly a virgin; I don't quite get how this is supposed to work, or why.

People who arrange meetings without informing admin staff should be aware that admin staff can be creative and patient in their revenge.

Okay, that should be wolverines with a small 'w'. Except it's about Wolverine. But not with himself.

...You know what I mean, right?...

I have seen those fics, and... just don't ask. (I'm totally not writing this cliché right now. I'm not. No, really, I'm not. I swear I'm not.)

And, hee. :D
