When she was there, she had a lot of presence, too - she was somehow really believeable as a character. Even though she was on-screen a lot less than SG-1, I really felt like she was around and about somewhere, doing stuff, with a life separate and entwined with the stuff that happened on the show... I think Teryl is a good actress, very vivid. It's the same with Hammond - he was mostly just there to send them on missions, have stuff explained to him, etc - but he felt like a fully-rounded character (if you'll excuse the pun).
And yeah, I agree with shows being allowed to kill off main characters if it works and has a reason (and 'Heroes' was a great swan-song) - but I just feel they could have done more with her, if they'd kept her. And I really miss her. Or... I feel that the other characters really miss her. *thinks* Yes. That's partly it, too.
