Thinking of songs (see post below)... What songs do you think Sam would like?

See, I have ideas in my brainpan as to what Jack would like. Teal'c also. Daniel I think of as not really paying attention to that sort of thing, his quiet moments being too busy with thinking, reading, etc. But Sam? I'm stumped. And I want it for a fic.

And also I thought it'd be fun to talk about.

My thoughts so far are -

  • She maybe liked Madonna when she was a kid / teenager in the 80s (she'd have been, what, 12 years old in 1980)
  • Also others from that period. George Michael, maybe? Was he popular in America then?
  • Nowadays she doesn't get much chance to listen to music, but hey, she has a car, so...
  • Stuff that Cassie / Janet have recommended / bought for her - I'm thinking of Faith Hill, but only 'cause of the story with 'This Kiss' in that made me go out and buy it (yes, yes I am a sucker)
  • She hummed the Stargate theme. She needs to get a life.
  • Argh

That's about as far as I've got.

Yeah, George Michael was popular here. I remember a lot of Wham tshirts in the 80s.

I've always thought that her guilty pleasure may be some of the hair metal bands from the '80 like Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Guns and Roses. But I can see her being very embarrassed if anyone caught her listening to them.
On the not quite as cheesy side I can see her liking Aerosmith and John Mellancamp. I can see her tearing down the road on her Indian to an Aerosmith or Mellancamp tune. I've seen a lot of fic where people have her listening to country but I've never got seen that unless maybe it was outlaw country. I guess because of the bike and leather pants I see her enjoying harder stuff than you might think from the straightlaced Air Force officer. She need some sort of outlet to be wild or she would combust.

I also sort of see her listening to David Bowie. He had a lot of space themed music. A kid wanting to be an astronaut could be entranced by Space Oddity.

Hmm, Maybe the Eurhymics/Annie Lennox too.

And of course, U2, simply because I cannot fathom anyone not loving them. ; )

Yeah, I could never quite see her being into country, outlaw or not - it just doesn't seem very... Sam. (I love outlaw country, so I'm definitely not projecting.) But yes to the Eurythmics, and U2, and Bowie... and a definite yes to hair metal bands! That just seems right, somehow - she's got all the residuals: the bike, the leather jacket, the love for the 'lunatic fringe'...

Can you imagine Sam with the big teased-up 80s hair? I wonder if there are any pictures of AT around like that. It just makes me giggle.

Hmm. I always thought of Sam as being the one who didn't really pay attention to that sort of thing, and Daniel was into world music. A little of everything from everywhere and he'd know all the weird instruments and lyrics and stuff.

But yeah, I can see her liking classic 80's stuff or soundtracks or even classical because without lyrics it wouldn't disturb her while she was thinking. :)

I'm pretty much rolling around on the floor imagining Sam reliving her 80s childhood...*gasps for breath*

Yes... Daniel would definitely be interested in the archaological / anthropological aspects of music. Not really one to get down and boogie, so much. *g*

I imagine Sam listening to classical when she studies (not at work, as I guess the Air Force might frown on that sort of thing). And when she - very occasionally - cuts loose, the consensus seems to be classic 80s stuff.

*loves her fictional characters possibly more than is healthy*

Oh yes. Because everyone's got embarrassing things they did as a teenager, and being a teenager in the 80s would have given her access to some particularly heinous fashion crimes... *g*

It doesn't bear thinking about. I've seen enough of her hair disasters. *g*

Heh! No one is ever around when I'm up at this ungodly (US) hour and getting ready for work.

I was thinking yesterday that I'd like to think that Sam went through this brief punk rock phase either in high school or college. (Probably college because I could see her rebellious side being delayed a bit.) But it was brief and sweet and taught her a lot about the world and might have made her less of a geek.

Errr, I know what you mean. Way too much time working all these things out for them. :)

Yeah, I do think Sam must've had a rebellious phase, particularly with a dad like that. There's only so long a person can go on being Little Miss Perfect without cracking. I like to think that she's dyed her hair pink at some point, too. *g* She's definitely got that SG-1 overwhelming coolness thing going, despite her geeky side. I wonder how Hanson fits into all that? Was he an attempt to rebel (because, y'know, scary older special ops guy) or an attempt to conform (getting engaged to an Air Force officer).

Sam rocks! *makes devil horns sign*
