Yay, [ profile] lolmac has kindly allowed me to share the postcard book I made for her (she had the winning bid for it in the [ profile] help_haiti auction) with everyone! She is kind and generous. :D

So, without further ado...

Random picspam. Wikipedia has the most adorable picture of RDA on their entry for him, taken on the set of MacGyver, circa 1985:

Cut because your screen might EXPLODE from the CUTE (and also because not all of you are interested in RDA). )

Speaking of picspam, I must soon bring you photos of the jousting (OMG) that I went to see, last Sunday. Real-life jousting, in full armour, on horseback! You should've seen those lances splintering.

Hey, look, it's Talk Like A Pirate Day this Sunday...

I've finished season 6 of MacGyver! It finished on kind of a low note, but no matter, because I have fic.

Trail of Tears )

Hind-Sight )

From 'makes no sense' to 'oh holy crap that makes SO MUCH SENSE': I have a fic rec: Reverb, by [personal profile] lolmac. How do I love it? Let me count the ways.

Let me count the ways behind this cut tag. )

While I was in the mood for epic fic, I also read [personal profile] rydra_wong's Walked Right Out Of The Machinery (Stargate SG-1 season 6 AU. The one where Ba'al's Jaffa got there thirty seconds faster), and I would rec it except that I'm probably the last person to read it. OMG SO GOOD. Lives up to everything that everyone said about it. It... I have no words. Probably the best depiction of someone slowly, painfully clawing their way back to some kind of equilibrium after horrendous trauma, while also dealing with some big changes in their life, that I've ever read. Oh Jack.

MacGyver tropes

pepper: MacGyver, having an idea (Mac idea)
Okay, so I'm having fun playing with my tropes list as regards MacGyver. Several of them don't fit the genre (bodyswap, for example), but there are some that you wouldn't expect, but which they actually did do. Mac is so cracky.

So, I'll remove the blanks, unless anyone can think of eps where they were done, and I've added in some tropes that fit more with the show (ex-girlfriend, bounty hunters, save the orphanage, old friend introduced just to be killed, Indiana Jones, unexpected progeny).

ETA: I've now deleted a few tropes, although I'll happily reactivate them if anyone can think of episodes that fit (even if it takes a bit of pushing and pulling): angry!sex, aphrodisiacs, baby farm, genderswap, Groundhog Day, telepathic soulbonding, truth or dare, turned into cavemen, turned into animals, and werewolves mate for life.

Oh, and definite spoilers for any and all eps below.

Feel free to offer any suggestions of episodes that fit, or tropes that should be on the list... )

Phew. I watched those two last week, and wasn't allowing myself to watch any more until I'd managed to work up a post about them.

Dammit, muse. No. No, I said. (ETA: If that doesn't open on the right place, scroll to the picture third up from the bottom. It'll be obvious which one I mean when you get there. Yes, the one with the SAK.)

The Wasteland

In which I wonder if someone has spiked my drink. )

You know, apropos of nothing in that ep, it strikes me that I keep waiting for a story or character arc on MacGyver. I'm out of tune with How TV Used To Be. I've been spoiled by my X-Files, Buffy, Doctor Who - yes, even Stargate. I mentioned, when talking about Jericho Games, that Mac would be even more commitment-shy after that... but he won't, will he? He was commitment-shy – when it suited the story – in the beginning, and he's no worse or better now. *sigh* I miss my plot arcs.

Yes, I know there's one involving Pete coming up, but I tend to think that's due to real life, and not because the writers suddenly realised that plot arcs weren't just for soap operas.

Until next time, take care of yourselves, and each other.

Come on, TV, shape up.

Some more MacGyver season 6 episode reactions. Spoilers galore.

Squeeze Play: in which I am not a baseball fan. )

Jerico Games: in which I need to relax about stupid TV disguises. )

Okay. A bit stupid, both of them, but I've seen worse. Onwards, ever onwards.

ION, and speaking of Sherlock Holmes: Did they make the new Sherlock Holmes* with an eye to the slash side of fandom or what? Wow. Anyhow, brainlessly enjoyable, sadly lacking in decent female roles thus far (they missed a great opportunity to make Lestrade a woman, I'm just sayin'), I love Mark Gatiss but he's in the wrong show, and it was nice to see the real 221B Baker Street, which I used to walk past fairly regularly. And the website content is cute but I can't believe Holmes in any incarnation would ever use a design like that.

It's depressing that they can have Watson "invalided home from Afghanistan" in both the original and the modern version.

* The BBC series, that is, and not the RDJ film, which I've not watched.

Two Mac episodes in a row which begin with his car breaking down. Mac, sweetheart, darling, snookums, I know your beloved grandpa left it to you, and it's a pretty awesome shade of turquoise that matches that hideous shirt you seem to love, but maybe you should buy a vehicle built after 1955? Don't give me that crap about aliens being responsible for the second breakdown, the X-Files won't come out for another three years. Besides which, the front end might be pretty, but from the back it looks like you should have five bratty kids and a dog.

'Bitter Harvest' is the run-of-the-mill plotline as mentioned previously (Wealthy Evil doing down Virtuous Poor, etc etc). I know I was wishing for that, but it's... very unexciting. Mac just can't help getting involved, can he? All part of his charm.

Cut for spoilers (and because I just think it looks tidier). )

ETA: RDA enthusing about French Impressionist painters. *swoons*

pepper: Sam/Jack kiss from Window of Opportunity (WoO kiss)
Been watching MacGyver season 6 this weekend, as I've got season 7 on its way. 'Lesson in Evil' is possibly the most unnecessarily involved and yet ridiculously stupid serial killer plot ever. It's as if Dr. Lecter Zito is trying to get himself caught by making his plan so slow and improbable that it can't help but fail. And even then, even then, Good only triumphs because Good has been working out.

(There was a bit where Zito says something along the lines of "Evil will always win, because Good..." and I finished, "is dumb." Spaceballs has ruined me.)

Oh, Mac. I'm disappointed in you. )

[Error: unknown template qotd](I noticed this on [ profile] quarryquest's LJ, rather than LJ homepage.)

Well, clearly someone is a fan - today is RDA's 59th birthday.

I had a MacGyver moment years ago, when I'd locked myself out. Okay, that part isn't very Mac - but how I dealt with it was. I walked around to the green space that backed on to our garden, and climbed over the fence (greeted with enthusiastic puzzlement by our dog). The back door was locked, but I saw the key was in the lock, and I worked out that I could push it through, and then reach through the catflap and get it, and let myself in.

It's a well-known burglar's trick, but at the time I was a mere schoolchild, and had never heard of such a thing, so I was very proud of my work. I could've stayed outside with the dog without being too bored, but it was cold. And I pointed out to my parents later that we shouldn't keep the key in the lock like that.

I miss having a dog. They're good companionship for having lone adventures.

Teh hot

Okay, [personal profile] crazedturkey did this, and it looked like a good idea. Ten men to whom I would not say 'no'.

(A, look away. It would only be if you'd been hit by a bus and I was in need of meaningless comfort in my utter, devastating grief, you know that. x)

ETA: People upon whom I would like to take out a contract:

- Television announcers who tell you the plot of upcoming CSI episodes. I spent the whole thing knowing that the 'missing person' had had an affair with her lecturer, and was dead in a dumpster - information they didn't uncover until about 40 minute through. Thank you so much.

- David Jason, or whoever keeps hiring him to be in Terry Pratchett TV adaptations. Rincewind? Rincewind?!? I have no words. They'll hire him to play Granny Weatherwax next.

A/N:  From six (!) of [profile] abyssinia4077 's LeapGate prompts - reposted here as one thing, as it's effectively one story (and it's also kind of a sequel to my ficlet Inspiration, which is NC-17 and was from a prompt from [personal profile] oxoniensis 's Porn Battle V.) What can I say: [personal profile] surreallis leaves these Sam/Mac prompts around, and I can't help myself. :)

Summary: These days, everyone had their ghosts.
A/N: Sooooort of from another of [personal profile] surreallis's prompts for [personal profile] oxoniensis's Porn Battle – MacGyver/Sam Carter, library. Except there's no pr0n. This is not a sequel to 'Inspiration', my other Sam/Mac fic, but it's maybe... an AU of it. References to Point Of View. Oho yes.

Incidentally, I've made an executive decision, that in this and any other Sam Carter / MacGyver crossovers I might write, they exist in a world where, if Mac has a son, he's referred to as Sean (for those less familiar with the series, Mac has a son called Sean Angus Malloy, commonly known as SAM). Because, no.

Mac looked up as someone gasped. A blonde woman, long hair tied back into a slightly frayed plait, was staring fixedly at him. He pushed the book back into place on the shelf, and looked enquiringly at her. )

Woohoo! I posted - just in the nick of time - a commentfic for [personal profile] oxoniensis's Porn Battle V. However, I had to cut several plotty bits - dammit - because of the limitation to comments. So here is the thing in full.

Title: Inspiration
Author: Pepper
Rating: NC-17 (duh)
Pairing(s): Sam Carter / Macgyver
Summary: Episode tag for Touchstone (Stargate), would you believe. Sam Carter and Mac have run into one another whilst trying to deal with some of the consequences of the weather device.
A/N: From Jenn's Macgyver/Stargate, Mac/Sam prompt, rain. Unbeta'd - I had to rush to get this done on time.

ETA: More beginning bit added, just because I can.

The air was unbearably hot and dry. But Sam wasn't minding so much at the moment. )
