The new episodes of Red Dwarf this weekend reminded me of how much I loved RD, so I made a few animated icons. Free to good homes, with credit.

The inimitable [livejournal.com profile] beanpot has been talking about setting up a book community for a while - and it's now aliiiiiiiiiiive: [livejournal.com profile] book_buzz, to review and discuss books.

In honour of that, and because I've been thinking for a while that I need a book icon, I've made a few. Feel free to snurch if you want. Or, in fact, to use as bases - most of them are fairly plain.

Meme instructions:
1. Reply to this post and I will pick five of your icons
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose if you damn well feel like it.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Aurora asked me about...
...these icons. )

So there you are. They're all made by me, because I'm funny about that. I like to have ones that I won't get confused with other people's (although I have seen the 'still hot' one around the interwebs, but I did say it was snurchable). I've been trying to conquer my need to have the perfect icon every time, because I only have 110 spaces, and that's not quite enough.

Checking in

I feel like I've not been around much lately. It's not exactly true; I have been lurking, and posting comments in other people's journals, but I've been much less verbose in my own lj. Lack of fannish energy at the moment. Anything I do have, I'm trying to concentrate it in my [profile] reel_sg1  fic, which I have a hope of finishing on time, despite the fact that it's surprisingly long. I think that's because I've kind of got a structure there to work from - i.e. the film for which I'm doing the crossover.

That's my brain for today.

pepper: There are only two ways a child can go with a name like Pippin Galadriel Moonchild, and Pepper had chosen the other one. (Good Omens Pepper)
I haven't actually blathered on my lj much this week. I think I unnerved myself by tagging all the posts I felt were blather (i.e. the random thoughts in my head about green tea ice cream, the doors at work, my ankle itching, kitchen cupboard picnics...), and that tag being so damn huge in the little cloud to the left. But, heck, I do blather, and it doesn't seem to have put y'all off me yet, so...
This weekend I is mostly going to be going to Hen Night pt. 2: Revenge Of The Southern Comfort & Cranberry. I need to bring a dish, and I'm trying to think what. I don't really do savouries so much, but I do a mean line in sweet pastries. I might do Eccles cakes, Welsh cakes, something like that - all carefully nut-free, 'cause I don't want the bride-to-be to stop being able to breathe. And, ohh, maybe some Cheesy Marmite Twists (puff pastry, rolled out thin, cut into two equal-size pieces, spread with Marmite, sprinkled with grated cheese, sandwiched together, cut into strips, twisted like twisty things, and baked). They're quite partyish.
I have made myself a Good Omens icon. That book was the reason I chose this username, after all, so I thought I should. It's a bit of a boring icon, but it was a ten-minute job: I may play around with Photoshop some more this evening, I'm quite in the mood for sticking silly captions on photos.
Oh, have now seen Firehouse, and would mostly like to say... WTF? Whoa there a second, back that firetruck up a little and show me what HAPPENED TO MICHAEL, DAMMIT! Also, I totally thought that woman's policeman husband would turn out to be the sniper – all the stuff about wanting her barefoot and pregnant had me convinced he was a psycho. Eesh.
I have been trying to choose a fic (well, it's about time!) for my [profile] gateverse_remix, but it's not easy. Too much good stuff to choose from. On the other hand, reading through lots of lovely fic isn't exactly a hardship. Oh, and [profile] abyssinia4077  tells me I'm allowed to write Jack's lost year (post Stargate film, pre-COTG), as a reward for finishing my remix. *g* I haven't done angst in yonks. Funny, that used to be what I usually wrote, but when I came to Stargate, I gravitated towards the fluffier end of the spectrum.
I may have an Indian takeaway this evening. There's a lovely place near me that does a most excellent vegetable korma.
Okay, I'm done.

Spectacularly repellent cough I have here. You guys, stop writing funny stuff (I'm looking at you, Abyssis. ZOMG, Daniel and Sam, PhD, hahaha!). Laughing sets me off. ;)

*glees at copy of In The Eyes Of A Stranger that landed on my doorstep with perfect timing for my day off sick* Ooh, RDA... nice hair. You could lose the beard, though.

I've gone through and re-tagged all my lj posts properly, so everything is findable. Particularly if you want to read my blathering. Also, I made a new icon, which I am using at every given opportunity. Because I can. Also the two icons below, which will probably only be funny to those of you who've seen the first episode of Black Books.

Okay, so I'm going to put this behind a cut, just in case... Man, I'm such a chicken.

edit: Oh, forgot to say, picture heavy behind the cut. Pictures such as the icon used for this post.

Pictures by Edward Gorey. Borrowed by me, 'cause I think they're genius. My particular favourites are Ida, Neville, Prue, Victor, and Xerxes.

Woohoo, meme-age! Because I am skating the crazy highs and lows of PMT, and can't cope with real life at the moment (I love you all! *cries* Everyone hates me! *hides* I want to sleep! *cleans tops of kitchen cupboards*).

And I will name you 3 interests from your list, and 3 userpics and you explain them in your own post asking the same of your flisters.

Thanks to [personal profile] rowan_d, (and I'm curious, rowan - which interests in particular do we have in common? edit: duh, just checked your interests, and yeah! *may go put Tennessee Williams on own interest list, actually*), who asked:

In other news... my boots are very pointy today. It's sort of fun, looking like a wicked witch, but I'm half afraid I'm going to trip over them. It's not completely unknown for me to be a klutz when it comes to putting one foot in front of another. If I get distracted enough when I'm walking, sometimes I forget how many feet I have, and which one comes next. Perhaps I was a centipede in a previous life.

Also, I made some new icons, mostly for use in things not Stargate-related. Anyone know who these ladies are?:

edit: Oh, these are the other icons. Welcome to use them if you want.

One of the freeview channels here has been repeating 'Robin of Sherwood' recently, and I've found myself watching it again.

edit: I offer pictorial illustration. No adjustment was made to these pics, aside from the added words. This was the horrible-yet-lovely pink filter they used. Pics from Robin's death scene. *sobs*

Grumpy icons, 'cause I'm in that kind of mood today. Feel free, etc.

*prods at previous post disconsolately* One meme too many?

On the other hand, I straightened my hair this morning, so it's all swishy.

And I've redone the grammar icons. Because... I'm a nutcase. As always, feel free to help yourselves, just give credit.

See? Icons. Pretty...

Take, use, be free, give credit, etc. I'm not the world's best icon-maker. I pretty much just take a screencap, tidy it up a bit, and slap on a caption. *shrug*

Just a post...

  • Jan. 22nd, 2007 at 11:11 AM
pepper: Pepperpot (Wake Me When It's Over)

...to use one of the icons wot I made this weekend. And to express my general feelings this morning.

edit: I'm not sure about my new default icon. It's scaring me a little.

edit 2: Ugh. Nasty chocolate raisins. I like 'em, generally speaking and in limited quantities, but these... the chocolate is unpleasantly dry and crunchy. It's somewhat like eating Bakelite. I'm not sure if that's because a) it's inferior chocolate, b) they're coated in some kind of shiny substance (possibly carnauba wax), c) they've gone stale, or d) all of the above.

I feel bizarrely decadent throwing them in the bin. But, heck, if I'm going to have empty calories, I damn well want to enjoy 'em. Like I would, say, one or two of the Indian sweets that my brother's girlfriend just brought back from holiday, for my dad.

Mmmmm.... stolen goodies...

Unnecessary minor rant

Made some icons last night... just because. And incidentally, boy do I loathe the new Robin Hood. Why must he do that tilting-the-head-down-and-looking-up-with-a-smug-smirk thing all the damn time? Eh? Eh?!? Grah. It's not cute - it's Just. Annoying. Makes me want to whack him on the top of the head with a mace.

And why the horribly anachronistic way they all speak, dress, act...? And the stupid location titles - 'Sherwood Forest'. No! Really? I'd never have guessed what with all the TREES! And the completely unsubtle attempts to crowbar modern issues into what's essentially a costume drama - ye gods. Give audiences some credit - they might actually be able to get their heads around the different mindset of people from the Middle Ages. It doesn't always have to be pop culture to be watchable and/or relevant. *grinds teeth*

Okay, okay, if I don't like it, don't watch it, etc - I agree. Actually, I'm not watching it. I gave it a try, watched the first few episodes, but decided, for the sake of my sanity and the ongoing not-smashed-in-ness of my TV, I'd better stop. He makes me want to chew my own fingers off in sheer rage.

edit: If anyone wants to use these icons, use away. Just gimme credit if asked - not that they were much effort to make.

It's all in my head

Wow, making icons isn't as easy as I'd thought. I don't have a problem with the design so much as I do with the quality - it always comes out looking kinda blurry. Need to play around some more, maybe look up some tutorials. On the other hand, I've been learning what screen, and hard light, and multiply, and soft light, etc, do, so that's good. It's about time, really - I've used Photoshop for about eight years now, so it's about time I got more proficient.

Fell asleep last night just as some lines / vague ideas for an SG-1 story popped into my fron. Then woke up late, had to rush in for an early meeting, had no time to myself until lunchtime. Jotted down some notes, so it hasn't all vanished. I should be writing more of it down, though, instead of journaling. Eh. I'm letting it mature.

After years of experimentation, I've found that the ideas I come up with just as I fall asleep are actually better if I let them brew for a bit. Unlike tea, which stews. Person in my office should take note. I used to get frustrated by forgetting things by the morning, but I've found they come back if I trace my thought processes.

I've been making pics - available here. Nothing too exciting, I didn't spend much time on them. I might play around with them some more this weekend - when I'm not at a Lucinda Williams gig.
