pepper: Jack thinking empty bubbles (Jack bubbles)
Pick your five favourite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions about them. Don't cheat!

Mine are:

1. Blake's 7
2. Stargate SG-1
3. Magnificent 7
4. Robin of Sherwood
5. Sapphire and Steel

Who is your favourite character in 2?
Jack O'Neill. This is not a surprise to anyone. It's the humour. And the eyes.

Who is your least favourite character in 1?
Travis 2. I just felt that the character went enormously downhill when the actor changed – which may be a script or director fault rather than anything to do with the actor, I don't know. He just turned from chilling and amoral but almost vaguely sympathetic to a childish, irrational, toddler-tantrum throwing stooge.

What's your favourite episode of 4?
Ooh, difficult. 'Alan A-Dale' was the one I picked to show a friend when trying to get her interested in Robin of Sherwood, but it's not the best ep, despite an awesome few scenes with the Sheriff and Gisburne ("This is a wedding, Gisburne, not a celebration!"). Likewise, I loved several scenes in 'The Witch Of Elsdon', particularly dunking Gisburne, and Marion getting so utterly furious because they keep treating her like she's a DELICATE GURL OMG... But I think my favourite is 'The King's Fool', the last ep in season 1. It is just so intelligent about heroes – the way Robin willingly blinds himself to the reality of King Richard, because he so desperately wants to believe in that happy ending... and how the others react, how far they're willing to follow Robin when they know he's wrong, that he's leading them to their doom... Plus, an awesome death scene and and and... Seriously, everyone, but especially [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp and [livejournal.com profile] holdouttrout, YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS SOMEDAY.

AND I WANT TO WATCH IT WITH YOU.

What is your favourite season of 5?
D'oh. Sapphire & Steel didn't really have seasons – it's done in the same way as early Doctor Who: one long story broken up over several episodes. The one at the railway station, with the WWI ghosts and George the ghost hunter, is my favourite. It's scary and tragic and complicated, and there are some good moments between Sapphire and Steel, and then... oh, George.

What's your favourite ship in 3?
Well, pairings in Mag 7 are more often slash, seeing as it's a series about seven men. *g* I usually read gen fics, but if I read pairing fic, it was mostly Vin/Chris – they were my two favourite characters.

Who is your anti-ship in 2?
Uh... well, I can't really say Jack/Daniel, despite being a Sam/Jack fan, because I will read OT3 with all of them... and Teal'c never gets enough loving (except in canon, hah!)... hmm. Sam/Orlin, perhaps. Can I pick that, even though it arguably wasn't a proper relationship? Screw it, I'm picking that one. I thought that was a bit odd, and I didn't like his slightly vacant expression, or the creepy mind-sharing thing, which I thought was really invasive. I just... thought the whole thing could easily have gone really badly wrong.

How long have you watched 1?
Since forever. When I first intentionally sat down to watch Blake's 7, it brought back vague memories of seeing it when I was really tiny. I wasn't yet one when the first ep was broadcast, and four by the time the last season ended – so, from age four or younger.

I got into it consciously when I was a teenager. They released the entire series sloooooooooooooooooooowly, over an excruciatingly long time, two episodes on one VHS tape – the 'good old days' my foot – about once every couple of months or so? Something like that. At 58 eps in total, it seemed like it would take FOREVER, let me tell you. That was when I was most fannish about it.

How did you become interested in 3?
Magnificent 7 was on late-night TV, which is just when TV used to start getting interesting (late-night TV was where I found Sledge Hammer!, Highlander, Bill Hicks, and a whole load of weird and unusual films). Sadly, late-night TV is not what it used to be.

Who is your favourite actor in 4?
Oh, Michael Praed. I had such a crush on him. The first 'boy' I ever liked. *g* He's not the world's greatest actor – but oh, so beautiful.

Which show do you prefer out of 1, 2, or 5?
Blake's 7, Stargate SG-1, or Sapphire & Steel? OMG, how do I choose?! Okay, not S&S, much though I adored it. But between B7 and SG-1... crap. I can't choose. I can't. I was insanely fannish about both, in their time. B7 was my first major fandom; SG-1 was my most recent, and the one I've participated in the most. They both had their flaws and their moments of brilliance. Stargate was funnier, and more carefully plotted; B7 had the darker, wittier (at times) script. B7 had the best ending (of any series, ever (okay, IMO)); SG-1 was more consistently enjoyable than any other show I've watched.

...No, I really can't choose, I'm sorry.

Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3?
Well, Blake's 7 has more episodes than Magnificent 7, but... I watched every B7 episode. I've still got one last ep of M7 to watch. I just stopped being so fannish about it before I got the DVDs, and never got round to watching that one (I missed it when it was broadcast).

If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
Marion. It's pretty much my lifelong ambition.

How would you kill off your favourite character in 2?
Jack, nooooooooooooooooo! Well, in battle, quickly, with only a few moments to tell the woman he loves that he has no regrets.

Give a random quote from 1.
"I have never understood why it should be necessary to become irrational in order to prove that you care – or, indeed, why it should be necessary to prove it at all." – Avon.

God I love Avon. And he totally does become irrational, later, because he cares. He just justifies it to himself really well. *g*

Would a 3/4 crossover work?
Robin of Sherwood / Sapphire & Steel? Well... it would work in the S&S universe. I think they mention time travel. In fact, they hint that they were on the Marie Celeste, at one point. Getting involved with S&S would really suck for the outlaws, though. Steel would think they were all primitives, and would happily sacrifice them in the name of saving the universe, and Sapphire would trip around the forest in some ridiculous designer faux-mediaeval dress and heels. Robin and his gang have dealt with evil magicians before, and would be very suspicious. The Sheriff would find them frustratingly uncooperative and try to throw them into an oubliette. Gisburne would have no chance with Sapphire, despite his inflated opinion of his personal charm.

Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple.
...Gosh, you know, name any two characters from B7. They are all unlikely. And I know, given a suitable fanficcer, I could be strangely okay with any of them.

Okay, Vila/Gan. They'd be sweet together. They'd look after one another. The rest are all too fucked-up for relationships.

Overall, which show has a better cast, 3 or 5?
I'm going to have to say Sapphire & Steel. Joanna Lumley and David McCallum were mesmerising. The Mag 7 cast were okay, they had their moments, but not generally more than averagely good.

Which has better theme music, 2 or 4?
Robin of Sherwood. I find it hard to remember the SG-1 theme tune, and I've heard it like a zillion times (although it's much better with the words *g*). It's, you know... fine. But 'Robin (the Hooded Man)' by Clannad was in the charts, and it haunted my childhood. Even people who didn't watch the show can still remember it.

---

I have to rewatch some of these shows, sometime.
